300 km/hr motorcycle chase

Three quick thoughts:

1. I don't think that was the autobahn (gut suggests UK or maybe Netherlands),

Definitely not the UK, Dave......we drive on the left. I think northern Germany or Poland
judging by what I can read on the road signs.
Did you notice that the guy on the Repsol race replica was wearing trainers and short socks......
still, if he came off at 180 mph it wouldn't much matter what he was wearing!

Pretty Sure

With all due respect, I disagree. If it was a closed road and they were the only ones on it, you'd be right. But they risked the lives of the other people on that highway. What if a car driver swerved into another lane because they suddenly saw in their peripheral vision something coming up fast in the left shoulder? As a driver, I expect others to at least obey the basic rules, or they endanger me.

That I wouldn't swerve left if I saw something moving fast on the left shoulder!:roflblack::roflblack:

You Are right!! :agree: They endangered many other lives !! Their carelessness could have resulted in an accident involving another bike or one of the many vehicles they passed, including buses. These are not trained professional riders, just people who have no common sense and no regard for thier safety or the safety of others!!
You have no idea who they are. They my well be trained professional riders, for all I know that was Mark Marquez on that Repsol Honda.......oh but you don't know who he is either:roflblack:

Pretty Funny

This whole discussion reminds of a story told by Bill Cosby. He was visiting with his kids who have just come home from their Grandparents house. The kids are going on and on about how wonderful their Grandmother is, how she lets them eat anything, and do anything, and watch TV all the time, "Nothing lie you Dad!" Bills response was something along the lines of," I have no idea of who you are talking about, she was never like that when I was a kid, she's an old person now, She's trying to get into heaven!" To hear this holyer than thou attitude from a bunch of mature bikers, that if they had a GoPro Camera in their day, we might have seen evidence of their stupid stunts, is really pretty funny. No one was hurt, this is just a video, these guys are not coming to your neighborhood. Like most of you, I am another one of those mature bikers and I did some really stupid stuff in my day, and still manage some Dumbass things that I can't believe. Enjoy the adrenaline rush for a few moments, then go for a ryde.

You might be right... :D

But...

How does one learn to use good judgement?
From experience...
And where does the best experience come from?
BAD judgement! :D

My point, is that maturity tends to allow one the benefit of perspective born of experience...
Which tells most of us; that those idiots are probably not long for this World...

Sorry some of you folks.

I also have a problem with justifying stupid in this particular case.

The consequences of a mistake here would have resulted in the deaths of riders and perhaps unfortunate bystanders who just happened to be on the freeway at the wrong time and place.

I also stated above, that I do not care if the 180 + motorcycle pilots carry a death wish and don't care if they kill themselves. I just don't feel that they need to extend that wish to innocent others.

IMO: there is a difference here between doing something stupid like this and some of the things we did when young. I for one never went out on the road and did something to this extent. I have went down the highway "speeding" a few times on the straightaway, never over 100 mph. Never had the urge to see just "what the machine will do."

I equate this type of thing with playing a game of Russian Roulette at a party. Also very stupid, and someone could end up getting killed over it.

very well put!!

:bdh:This thread isn't dead yet??? I should have stopped looking at it when I was told I was meddling in their business and it's NOT my business to criticize. Then apparently I'm too old to appreciate the daring-doo of those idiots in the video. But, here I am again to say those riders are idiots and they endangered others who shared the road with them.

I may have posted the "thread killer." :roflblack:

What if all day. There were none. Luck on the part of the riders? Possibly, or maybe the riders knew nothing was there. No doubt their eyesight and reaction times are better than most and that probably means just about everyone in our little group here at Spyderlovers. The riders showed very poor judgment but that does not mean they lacked skill and talent.

Skill and talent mean nothing without judgement...and they had none. Using "skill and talent" THAT way is still mortally stupid.

EXACTLY! Well said. So many here preaching as if they are pure as the wind driven snow whereas most have done stupid stuff, potentially deadly stuff, in their youth and those that haven't are probably plain vanilla people bordering on boring. Give me someone who paints their life in vivid colors - not in a number 2 pencil. I make no apologies. Even though these riders showed incredibly poor judgment I admire their skill.

So, because someone else made a mistake 20 -30 -40 years ago it's ok for someone today to endanger other peoples lives? Still doesn't fly.

You have that much "skill and talent", go to a track day. I admire people who show their skill on the track (and I'm heavily involved in motorsport)...I do not admire anything shown by these people. Stupid. Just...plain...stupid.

You are correct about the lack of judgment but wrong about the chimp. Most people including most of us here could not do what those riders did even if we were on a deserted track.

That still doesn't justify what they were doing. Endangering other people with your stupidity can NOT be justified.

I mad a lot of bone-headed choice in my youth; I'll freely admit that! :D
I got here, in spite of; not because of. them... :opps:

. I agree. Once I had a pursuit. We were chasing a murder suspect. 130 MPH down the Harbor freeway at 4:00 am. It was a lot of work to keep from causing crashes along the way. There were two of us in the car, and both of us were extremely busy negotiating the pursuit and preventing crashes. Driving that fast is not only stupidly dangerous, it shows very immature judgement, a complete lack of care for other people, and a level of disregard for loved ones that is both sad and hurtful.

just to stir up the pot a tad more

fasten your safety belts... and I'm only guilty of 176+ mph.. on the street... so many years ago... now my friend on his hayabusa.... radar detector went off like crazy.. peripheralvision.. spotted in the trees.. and he didn't move.. knew there was no reason too.. kind of like this story I know of a doctor that had a lamborghini and night goggles.. he was clocked many times going to ..hee, hee, his next client.. in the next town hrs away early in the morning..

getting uptight will give you ulcers

arm chair racers here only.. do not be offended.your chose though... this happens every day.. perhaps the world will change now that Harley Davidson has made an electric bike but they are fast too....

Ummm. What?

Sends the wrong message

This kind of behavior kills sooner or later, would you survive their stupidity or become their victim. I've been a victim of two Crotch rockets weaving in and out of traffic during rush hour, cutting in front of me and then slowing down just to do it again, sh_ts and giggles for them. Having my family members screaming in the car, scared we'd end up in an accident or worse dead. This behavior sends the wrong message, this is one reason among others that states are after the motorcyclist. The lobbyist love this kind of stuff, give them another reason to force more restrictions on our freedom to ride, yep Stupid, out of here!:banghead:
