• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I just bought a 2013 STS Spyder about 2 weeks ago. So far it good with no heat problems. I am about ready to take it in for the 600 mile check up and the dealer where I bought it from offers a 3 year maintenance plan that cost $1500 plus tax that would include the 600 mile, 4,600 mile, 9,300 mile, 14,000 check up (which I have heard is the most expensive) and any oil changes for 3 years (unlimited miles). Is this worth the money or am I better off doing the maintenance myself? I do have mechanical knowledge but not a mechanic.

I don't have the mechanical knowledge, paid the $1,500.00 and damn glad I did. I'm past 14,000 miles and haven't paid a cent on my services and maintenance.

IMHO- the 600 is probably the most important. Gives the tech a chance to give things a once over after the machine has been on the road a bit. From there it's mainly oil changes with only a few extras that are not uncommon to any machine.
What I did was had the dealer throw in the 600 service as part of my purchase (Mainly because I bought in April at the beginning of the riding season and didn't want to deal with it so early). From there I have no issues doing things on my own at my own expense. Personal preference....

I don't think you can go wrong either way. It really just comes down to personal preference and comfort level.
For me some garage time is alone time...which is a nice break.;)
 
C'mon guys use the search and you will find the 3yr warranty for $749. It was just discussed in the last couple of days.:banghead:

BRP no longer offers the Plus program that includes regular services.:thumbup:

If he is offering that it is not a BRP warranty ( or may be with his own add on). Do you trust they will stay in business for 3 yrs because no other shop will honor that.

I said they no longer offer that believe me they just did not redo the flyer. You can call any dealer and they will tell you the same.

:thumbup: I wish they did I might have gotten it but knowing now that the valve check is almost never needed ( and you would be able to tell if it does) and that doing the oil change is pretty easy with the new side covers and kits are available it would have been a waste of money. I will be doing my own. If something breaks then the warranty is worth the money especially if it is electronic.

Come on Magdave, if you would of read my post I said 3 year maintenance plan, not 3 year warranty.:banghead: I have the extended warranty for the just in case , it was for an additional 3 years past the 2 year BRP warranty for $650. This is a maintenance plan from the dealership that covers the different check ups and oil changes that the warranty does not cover, at least mine does not cover that stuff. I heard the 14,000 mile check up can get expensive. Was told at that check up they sometimes have to replace valves and, or bearings, and the cheapest 14,000 mile check up they have done was about $1,000

Sorry didn't see this post. Yes it offered by the dealer I bought it at, and I'm pretty sure they will be in business for 3 years but no guarantee. The bad thing is the work can only be done at this dealer, so if I move I am S.O.L

If you feel confident in your wrenching skills and can follow everything that is req'd in the SM then I would say yes.

It may be worth the $1500 price tag if you don't want to work on your bike and if the price is cheaper than what is posted for all those services providing you keep the bike that long.

Another thing to question is if you have an extended warranty like the BEST,would working on it effect the warranty?

it all comes down to what you can and can't do, what you want or don't want to do and what you can or can't afford. Shopping around you will find other options..in most cases you have two years to decide....:thumbup:

Me thinks he's talking about the maintenance service contract that you pay $1,500.00 for it and not so much a warranty. I could be wrong.

:thumbup:No Problem but as I pointed out BRP changing oil kit is $99 and easy to do and will not effect your warranty. It includes everything you need. Lots of dealers (good ones) tell their customer the valve adjustment at 14k is unneeded and if it is you will be able to tell ( tapping, running bad) but 99% of the time they are fine. Do you want to pay $1500 just in case you are one of the 1 %. Your choice:thumbup:

Magdave question.

I asked a while ago about something my dealer had told me regarding the valves on a spyder. It was actually the owner I talked to who at one time had been a m/c mechanic. He said as the valves wear there is less noise, not more. So, it's the lack of noise that indicates there is a problem. Is that true?

That one I cannot answer for you maybe Nancy's Toy (Scotty) can tell us. All I know is I have been told you definitely will notice if they need done.

This post answered questions as I was reading the thread. The price is worth it when you consider $300 oil changes, and $800-$1000 valve adjustment service. Since it is good only at the selling dealer, then you have the issue of will the dealer be in business the whole time of the service contract. That would be the sticking point for me.
