2nd NEW TIRE

My Yokohoma S Drive is very tired at 12k miles so I am now putting on a Kumo ecsta. Hopefully to get a bit more miles out of it. Also I changed out the rear bearings and seals and rear brake pads. I had to make my own tool to get that weird nut off.

12k? That’s not any better than stock. Hope you get better wear out of this one! I’m watching all theses posts to see what I will go with after my original wears out.

That was my experience as well with the Yokohama, I didn’t get 9,000 miles out of mine. You should certainly get more miles out of the Kumho but you will give up some handling. My preference is the General Altimax RT43 in 215/60R15.

This is the General Altimax RT43 on my 15 RT that I replaced the Kumho with last May. The Kumho Ecsta got 23,500 miles and so far the General has 15,500 miles and should get thru the rest of this year. The wifes 16 F3T only got 21,000 on her last General, but then she Hot Rods a little bit. :roflblack:

With all the hype and all about going with the car tires this is not the one... :yikes: I get much better on the Kendas. You should do much better with the kumo...:thumbup:

Just curious, if someone knows. The General Altimax RT43 comes in a 215/60R15, while the Kuhmo comes in the standard size, 225/50R15. What would be the difference in handling due to the difference in size, understanding that there is a difference in compound that might effect handling. :dontknow:

Generally speaking a 50 aspect tire should be stiffer than a 60 aspect ….. but there is no guarantee that will be the case …. It would depend on how the manufacturer made the Casing ….. also the material compounds ( in the tread area ) that are used will have a distinct effect on the traction provided …… Mike hyea:

I went to www.tirerack.com and typed the stock size and the Kuhmo was the only thing that came up. Besides racing tires. The Kuhmo is an All season tire and I'm not sure if the General is or not. I seen others get 20k miles out of it so that's another reason I went ahead and replaced the wheel bearings. I have right at 21K and I believe they get changed at 30k miles. It was fun grinding a tool from a good socket that ill use 1 time.
