There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2020 RTL hard to start again soon after riding 1-2 hours

After riding 1-2 hours, when parked I can smell gas fumes. When I attempt to start it while still hot, it turns over but takes time for it to start. When engine is cold no starting issues. Any recommendations?

Smelling gas fumes is bad. Finding the source and solution should be extremely high priority before you go any further. There are a number of possibilities including a leaking fuel line. Hopefully, you can get this corrected quickly.

My guess. It might be the same issue they are having with some 2021 and 2022 RT and F3 models having low compression. I think BRP has a software fix in BUDS 2; So if you know anyone with a buds 2 they should be able to fix it or go to your dealer and tell them what your machine is doing, tell them about tech bulletin on the issue.

TSB Number: BULETIN 2022-4
NHTSA Number:10210863
TSB Date: May 3, 2022
Date Added to File: May 3, 2022
Failing Component: Engine And Engine Cooling
Summary: On my21 (built after 2021-01-01) and somemy22 spyder rt and f3 units engine may not start due to low compression which can be caused by carbon deposits in combustion chambers.

Sounds like a faulty purge valve. I bypassed mine as have others. After my wifes malfunctioned I eliminated it on my F3S as prevention from it happening to mine.

GnD -- I'm going to assume the 2020 is layout is similar to my 2014. If so the evaporative system is on the left near the brake fluid reservoirs and the fuel lines including filter are on the right near your knee.

If you smell the fumes shortly after dismounting, the most likely cause is a fuel leak because the evaporative canister purge cycle will have been completed within a half-hour of riding.

Which side did you smell fumes?

A fuel leak would also explain the hot start problem. When the key is turned on, the fuel system pressurizes for two seconds. With a leak, the system will de-pressurize during the safety card delay.

For cold engine start, the ECM adds fuel for a rich mixture so low fuel pressure isn't so noticeable.

For a hot engine start, the ECM runs leaner so low fuel pressure would have more effect. Cranking the engine allows fuel pressure to build up.

A test to confirm this is to turn the key on and off several times then try the hot engine start. If the start is closer to normal, you've pretty much confirmed a fuel leak.

It's possible but unlikely to have fuel injectors getting sticky when hot and in combination with low driver voltage during the start cycle not opening properly.

You do not want to have this TSB problem

If carbon deposits are the problem, then in all likelihood your intake valves are leaking causing the low compression. This is a unhappy situation. My condolences.

Hard to re-start when still warm after riding

Thank you all for replying and offering advice. I cannot tell the specific location of fuel smell when the engine is cold; my RTL starts right up... My friend with same year and model has same issue. I am inquiring with our local group where to take it for repair in Tampa Bay FL

Thank you for the bulletin information. I will check it out. My friend with his RTL has same issue.

:hun: I have a 14 RT .... and my Brake reservoirs are on the RIGHT.... Mike

Mike -- yep the reservoirs are on the right-side of the chassis backbone and the evaporative hoses run underneath them but I was trying to provide an approximate fore-aft location.

Always glad to have you watching my 6.:ohyea:

Update: Per recommendation, I installed a replacement fuel purge valve and no longer am getting a fuel smell or limp mode issue

Ta for the update, the remedy and good to read its now running nicely.

Bit confused with the last 3 words of your update.

Limp mode issue gets a mention ?
