2014 Shift Point

I'm grabbing first to second to third upshifts at about 2,100 rpm. Fourth, fifth and sixth get snagged at 2,500 rpm.
And I'm getting 37 mpg! :yes::ohyea::yes:

Just got back from another run... In EcoMode, I am in 5th gear at 45 MPH and about 2600 RPMs and EcoMode is showing me the green shift-up arrow... seems weird to me!! :dontknow:

A couple times I was in 1st gear and hit about 4,000 RPMs before the green arrow made an appearance....

Does anyone know if the EcoMode follow's any rules? Like certain RPMs or speed or something else?

Hi,
I have 3,150 miles on my 2014 Spyder RT-S SE6 shifting between 3k to 4.5k rpm (1330 motor sweet spot) normal ryding; average 33 mpg.
Shifting 4k to 6.5k rpm the 1330 triple motor comes alive with awesome torque/power; average 32 mpg.
Shifting 3k to 4k ryding easy not over 75 mph I get 37.5 mpg.
I never lug motor 2.5k or below. Never in ECO mode. I like SpyderAnn01 comment "I would prefer water torture to Eco mode anyday"; ha!
I love the wailing sound of the 1330 triple motor so am on the throttle a lot throught the gears.
Mostly ryde in 5th gear aound town, etc. Only use 6th over 65 mph.
Don't be concerned about rpms, the new in-line 1330 triple motor loves to rev also like the 998.
Enjoy your new 2014 RT!!
(This is my preference)!
Jim

This coincides with my experience so far. Is it just me or does the 2014 RTS seem a little slower out of the gate in 1st compared to the older RTS (mine was 2012). From a stop, I could blast off on my 2012. Could it be that this will improve after break-in period? I only have 60 miles on it! :f_spider:

I haven't found much utility in the "ECO" mode...
Other than softening the power delivery; I'm already shifting lower than it seems to like... :dontknow:

:dontknow: I wish BRP would publish some guidelines. Automobile owner manuals usually have this info in them, I think. I'm reading here 2100 rpm - 3500 rpm. That's quite a range.

Also, how does pulling a trailer affect it? When I was on my way to get fuel before leaving Springfield was the first time I realized there wasn't a trailer mode. I called Pit Bulls and asked about it. They said because of the lower torque, it wasn't necessary. I'm OK with that, but I'd like some guidelines on shifting with and without a loaded trailer.

eco mode

Finally tried a tank of fuel while not in eco mode. Made a difference of 10% in fuel mileage--to the better!
Haven't had the engine over 4000 rpm yet- 125kph

Now that I have about 1200 miles on the 2014, I am following Bob's suggestions on shifting at 2500 - 2700 rpms. It seems like I am shifting way to soon, BUT, it works and the :spyder2: does not seem to be lugging.

I am thinking it is like driving some of those 18 wheelers where they seem to shift every couple of seconds--due to the low rpm range.

In four tanks of gas, I got 37 mpg on the first two, and 38 mpg on the second two. Tomorrow, I fill again and check the mileage.

I am planning on running up to 2000 miles shifting the way I have been. After 2000 miles, I am going to try shift points at 3000 rpms and see what happens. I am interested in power band/fuel economy results. Time will tell.

Shift points

Just curious, where did you find BRP suggested points?I just took delivery n a 17RT Ltd and went through the whole book and can't find it..Bruce Hyams2017 RT LtdDiamond Powersports, Dover DE
Whether in ECO Mode or not, that's slightly above the lowest shift point recommended by BRP for the ACE 1330 /6 speed. Of course you can go higher, we do! Don't know yet how much it affects fuel economy. There are other members doing that testing currently and it will be interesting to see how driving style affects mileage and your level of enjoyment. I believe most would go with the enjoyment shift points ;)Bob & Dee2014 RT-S SE6Timeless Black

It's not in the book: just use the "seat of your pants", to decide...
Everybody has their own riding style, and the 1330s aren't the least bit fussy about their operating rpm levels.

But I shift early... EVERY early!! nojoke

newbie here and checking out past threads, I shift my F3 no less than 4K and don't cruise less than 3K, I had a Triumph 1050 3 cylinder much like the 1330, mileage was worse with shifts less than what I use with the 1330 so I'm using it for my guide line

Interesting to see this older thread brought back. Checked out my two posts and have a new update.

Been driving my 2014 since April of that year. Now at 28,000 miles and in winter layup.

I now shift at 3500 for all gears and try to keep the operation in that range. 65 in sixth will give that 3500. Faster of course will give higher rpm's.

My mileage is a tad below 39--and I have been accused by Linda (who drives a 998) of going to fast and blowing her doors off. I finally got her to drive the 14 this year. She still prefers her 998.

,,,,,,,,,,, I would prefer water torture to Eco mode any day.

Eco mode is a pain------------. I much prefer to keep my eyes up and on the road. Shifting between 3,500 and 4,552( :joke::joke::joke:) RPM's seems good for average riding. ( what ever that is ). Running the motor up to 7k once in a while won't hurt anything. Not exactly a V-Max on boost thoughnojoke
