2014 Bajaron Swaybar

Utah Geezer

New member
Anyone riding a 2014 RT Limited that is using a Bajaron Swaybar. Does it make as big a difference on the 2014 as it did on my 2011. I read that BRP upgraded the swaybar on the 2014 and it was performing better. All ready spent a bunch of my budget on other accessories and I don't even have the new Spyder yet. Trying to maximize my spending on the must have needs and not the wishful wants. I know it made a huge difference on the 2011 but with the upgrade I'm hoping it is performing much better than the old stock one. New Spyder should be here next week.

Dennis, the sway bar makes a big difference on the 2014. I could tell the difference on the first corner I made. We sell and install Baja Ron sway bars and heim links so if you would like one let Joe or I know.

Install

SpyderAnn: Do you install as well? I'm coming down in a week or so for the alignment. If you install that might be the time to do it as well. Let me know. Send me a P.M. if you can on the price of the Swaybar and how much for install if you do.

Ann,
I have been wrestling with this dilemma for the entire riding Season...
When I had "Fawkes" (2010 RT), it was readily apparent that it needed some help up front...
I swapped out the limp 2010 shocks for some 2011s; they helped a bit...
Then I got serious, and changed to Elkas, and the "RonBar"... :2thumbs:
I actually had to dial back the preload in order to slow down the steering response; it was THAT much better! nojoke
But the 2014 has me stumped... :dontknow:
It's about 90% as quick and precise as the modified 2010; yet it's way more compliant and comfortable.
I think that I might have hit about three turns this Season, where I could have used some help up front.

You know how much I support Ron and his products; do you think that even I would see enough improvement to make it worth the purchase?

Bob,
FWIW, based on the comments of '14 RT owners on SL who had the BajaRon bar I opted to have it installed by the dealer as part of the OTD package. On the 90 mile ride home I experienced some pretty severe cross winds and the Spyder went nowhere. On my first super slab ride during rush hour I intentionally blew between two semis to get out of their blind spots and pulled up just behind their noses where they could see me -- maybe not the best move for first time on interstate but I did it specifically to see how the Spyder would react. I could feel the buffeting on my body but, again, the roadster when nowhere. In the NC mountain twisties it corners flat and very stable. I have no idea how it would react with a stock sway bar but for the $$ I was sinking into the Spyder I felt it would be a very wise investment based on the performance reports of Ron's product. YMMV.

Our 2014 RT Limited was our first Spyder. After piloting the stock RTL for months, I finally had Ron's anti sway bar (and joints) installed and a laser alignment. This made a big improvement. I would recommend BajaRon as a "must have" for the 2014. It's that good.

I have to say adding the Sway bar & links was well worth the price of admission.
Just a much more comfortable foot hold on the road in the turns and the troubles riding in cross winds is a thing of the past!

Difference

I knew they made a big difference to the older models but I wasn't sure about the 2014 where supposedly BRP had upgraded their swaybar. I'm not an aggressive rider but I do ride the freeway and twisty mountain roads a lot. I also like to stay up with my friends who are all riding 2 wheelers. Also like to be as safe as possible so if its a safety issue it makes me wonder even more.

YES it is worth it!

I put some mileage on our 2014 RTS before doing the Bajaron sway bar and heim links but after a laser alignment by Ann and Joe. Both made significant improvements and I don't feel I need anything further done with it. Definitely worth it.

Test rode the F3 last weekend and felt no issue with sway as I did with our RSS ( installed both sway bar and billet links). Wonder if anyone thinks there will be a need for a sway bar, or is Ron going to include the F3 in his sway bar lineup?

SpyderAnn, I know you also test rode the F3 there, what is your take on the need. I know the bike isn't for you, but would like your thoughts.

 That's just it
I've never experienced any funky handling traits due to cross-winds...
...And we've got the spot up here to test for it! The top of the Neversink Reservoir will usually have a 20 mph or so "breeze cooking across it, just for fun. On the days when it's "interesting", those crosswinds can reach 50 mph real easy! :yikes: There have been days when it wanted to blow me off the bike; but the bike was always rock-solid on the pavement.

The Ron Bar really make a difference with two up and the increased lean in the turns. Probably not as much when riding solo unless you are a very aggressive rider. Had one on the 13 and will be putting one on the 14 first week in December when Ann and Joe use my Hanger for Lazer Alignments. They will install and also sell to me.

Everyone is most welcome to stop by for some Spyder Talk and say "Hello" on Dec. 6th.

This is an ongoing debate over weather a Spyder needs or does not need an aftermarket sway bar, aftermarket shocks, or any other performance or handling product upgrade. Performance after market shocks do improve what ever you put them on. Aftermarket sway bars do improve the stock handling of what they are installed on. There are a number of upgrades people make, aftermarket mufflers, Cat delete bypass exhaust along with many more. Are these things needed or just things we want? I think it all depends on your riding style. Is the '14 Rt a good ride out of the showroom? Yes it is. the only thing it may need is an alignment. One quick ride will let you know that. Most people will be happy with the handling. A certain % of people will want to upgrade the shocks, sway bar and other things before getting it out of the show room. That's just how we roll, everyone is different, everyone has different needs, different wants and perhaps different means (money) to be able to buy extras. I rode my first spyder Rt for 2 years before changing out the sway bar. My skill level with the Spyder went up quite a bit in those 2 years and that is when I started upgrading. I will do the same with my new '14 RTS . Do I have to do it because it handles bad? No. Do I want to improve the ride as time go on? Yes. this is kinda of long winded but it is just my opinion.

:agree: It comes down to the individual rider's style...
I guess that I just don't find myself playing the "Turn & Burn" game, all that often anymore... :opps:

SWAY BAR ?????

I haven't gone to the SWAY-BAR up-grade yet , because I swapped my front tires for TOYO Proxes T 1 r "V" rated 185/55 - 15's and these babies stick like glue ...dry or wet, and only cost $57 each @ Tire Rack............................:thumbup::thumbup:....Mike
