• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. 2013 Windshield Change

Well I just swapped out my 2010 "Barn Door" model for a 25" model off of a 2013. It'll be interesting if those vent holes help to reduce buffeting by any appreciable amount. A "Report From The Saddle" will follow! :2thumbs:

How do you like your new windshield? Did it help with buffering on you trip to/from Spyderfest? I'm in the market for a new windshield and trying to decide between Calsci, F4 or the new BRP windshields.

I just put the 23" vented on my RT for summer use and kept the 25" non vented for cooler months. It only takes 5 minutes to swap them out.

Yes it did! :2thumbs: Those two little vent holes did make a difference in the amount of buffeting; I was able to run with the windshield in a consistently lower position, without feeling as if I was getting slapped around by the "Three Stooges"...

I positioned the vent in an area of the windshield that I thought would work best for me. (See attached picture of the windshield with the vent installed) You could position it lower, but for me I found optimal air flow at the position I chose.

Here is a link that includes the instructions that come with the vent as well as pictures showing the steps required to mount the vent. http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6578

I would truly recommend removing the windshield from your Spyder. It takes only a few minutes and makes the marking and cutting of the windshield much easier.

I masked the cut area on the windshield with several layers of blue painters masking tape, marked the cut out, drilled two holes with a 7/16 inch drill bit and used a jig saw with a scroll type blade to completely cut out the vent hole. After I made my slightly undersized initial cut of the vent hole I used a rotary type tool (a hand file would suffice) to gradually shave the edges of the opening to ensure a snug fit of the vent. The marking cutting and fitting took about 3/4 of an hour and turned out to be easier than I first imagined. Overall I would rate this mod as being moderately easy once you get over the fact that there was no turning back once you started drilling and cutting. Felt somewhat like cutting the seat for the Utopia Backrest install, for those of you who have been down that road.

I took the Spyder out for its maiden "spring" run a few weeks back when the temperature was hovering at around 34F. I noticed a definite cool draft when I opened the newly installed vent while traveling at 70 miles per hour down the road!

I did the same GW vent install a few years ago, and though I am not mechanically inclined, it turned out OK using a saber saw with a fine blade and tape to reduce risk of cracks. The end product turned out good:

I'm right there with you! I was looking at the Calsci windshields but have started hearing good things about the BRP windshields, now.

Even with the '12 stock shield all the way up I get buffeting, especially at 60+

The Calsci height is the same at 25" but the width is more and the price is half. I'm wondering if those vent louvers on the BRP one will do the job. I wonder if I can test it out. hmmmm.

I wish people would realize NOT everyone does FACEBOOK!!!!!

A day or two ago Len from Pitbull Power Sports posted a video on Facebook showing how to change the windshield to the new vented version.

I sure wish Len and all the others would realize that not everyone is a FACEBOOK believer and follower and post the videos here or on a website like Pitbull Powersports website or something so everyone can see these to be better educated. Sad that everyone presumes that EVERYONE believes and does Facebook. NOT EVERYONE! Thank you! ;)

Apparently, Len likes facebook. Your argument that he is somehow wrong for sharing free knowledge there, rather than here is spurious, at best. Is Len to be chastised for not posting his videos in every format available in the entire world, just so the people that don't use one specific method are not denied his free advice or knowledge? I think everyone does know that not everyone is a facebook "believer" (whatever that means . . . ) Should the folks who do use facebook, but are not members of this forum be denied Len's knowledge . . . to ensure you benefit from it? I suppose you think NBC should broadcast CBS shows, too, so you can watch them without changing the channel?? Jus' sayin'

I don't waste time on FaceBook; but I don't begrudge the folks that do...

Another vote for NOT using FaceBook. It is a shame that a lot of information is posted there--assuming that all the SL members will be over there trying to find more information. I don't like FB, don't go there, and don't plan on it.

I also hear our great leader posts a lot of information there. Wish it would at least be duplicated here on SL. Thank you in advance.

Cheaper Wind Screen

Thanks Dave,

I was looking to get by "on the cheap". Maybe the BRP option will end up being the way to go.

I have heard of some Roadster Ryders going to the local class shop and buy a piece of flat Lexan. Cutting out a pattern then take a hot air gun to it to shape it to your liking.

Just an idea ? ?
