• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2011 RS-S

Sharing my VERY FIRST photos of my 2011 RSS SE5:

Currently breaking in at 160.3mi.--so far, so good...

No mods yet--Love just gettin' on this and RYDE!

Next to my gas guzzler--With gas prices around $4/gal., the Spyder's my vehicle of choice!

BTW... I highly recommend the White LED super bright fender tips from our Sponsers. The difference is HUGE and cheap. Our Headlights go pretty strait and these fender lights attract the eye a bit better at an angle... Like for those coming to the end of a road and we are on that road they plan to merge into...

And they cut through the grayish days of rain far better than stock ever will:doorag:

Not to mention folks next to us in Multi lane roads. I have seen them save my fanny twice so far. :2thumbs:

:congrats: on your new RS-S.

There are different opinions on break in periods. Many like to follow exactly what the manufacturer says for just in case they have a problem. Their is another thread on here about breaking in with a great link to an article about the difference between older engine tolerances and the newer ones. The new school of thought is to break it in like you plan on riding it and everything should be okay. In the end, it is your machine and totally up to you as to how you want to handle the first 600 miles.

Best of luck with it.

Update on my 2011 RSS SE5...

Bad news: My Harley buddies & I went out rydin' yesterday through the backwoods twisties from Valencia to Antelope Valley. We ended up parking at a Harley dealership in that area 'cuz one of them wanted to add some more bling.

Anyway, coming back to the parking lot, I noticed a puddle underneath the front left side of my Spyder. We opened up the left panel & checked the engine oil level--the oil was barely touchin' the dipstick! One of my buddies noticed the splash on the rear fender as well.

I try to call my Spyder dealer but they were already closed for the day. I checked my manual to see what type of oil the RSS SE5 uses, and this particular Harley dealer doesn't carry them. I ryde the Spyder 1-1/2mi. down the street to a Rider's Choice store. They only have the 10W-40 Motorcycle Oil by Spectro.

I ryde the Spyder back home, checking the gauges (never overheated) & displays for any codes that may pop-up (never showed any codes).

I placed a cardboard underneath the Spyder and took a photo of the leak last night:

Waking up this morning, I took another photo of the Spyder:

Here in Southern California, we're blessed this morning with a very nice sunny 65deg Sunday morning. As much as I wanna ryde, I'll just have to wait 'till tomorrow & ryde it to the dealer & have them take a look at it :gaah:

Lose oil drain plug or oil filter?:dontknow:[bad washer / O ring]

^^^ That's what we suspect as well. I'll be rydin' tomorrow to the dealer to have them inspect it, and also to get my 2 key sleeves, which they didn't provide.

Just so you do not feel alone... Mine had a leak as well. My tech said it was the Oil Sensor, and it had a crack on it. They carry them in-stock because this is something they say happens enough that they have the need to do so.

It made a real mess to my undercarriage... :cus:

They did cover it under the warranty (Of course) and it is a quick fix. Not sure how many miles you have right now, but if close to 600 I would get the first checkup done as well. They found my belt and I quote "Significantly out of alignment" /quote...

^^^ My Spyder's currently at 402.8mi. I'm now wondering if I should just go ahead & get the 3yrs BEST Plus (that Bert's is offering) to cover for the first service, plus any yearly maintenance that comes along the way. :doorag:

Hey GhostRyder! Who knows, maybe you blew gaskets somewhere on that machine. There is a reason why you have to take it easy during the break in period. Everything is tight and all. Anyways, good luck. Hope it's not too serious.

Well... I look at it like this. Read the fine print. I have heard the Best Plus has great value, but not all dealers can afford what BRP pays to get the job done right.

I chose to just get the BEST, as it covers everything important, and just pay the service stuff. But that is me. I plan to do all the Oil changes that do not require additional BRP tools at the major service intervals.

400 miles spooks me for the 600 mile service. I would rather see 500+. The fix will cost you nothing. I would take it in and get your additional 200 miles then do the 600 mile service.

Besides... I know they have to pull all the Tupperware to do the oil leak, and would like to incourage you to do it then to save you labor. But it is your bike. Go with what feels right to you.

BTW... Mine cost $369 for the 600 Mile service. Siiiiiigh.

Sorry to post this sooo late, but everything worked out in the end. The culprit? The darn O-ring wasn't seated correctly, or something like that--because the oil filter was sitting flush when the tech checked it out.

I topped-off the oil before I left home to go to the dealer. The dipstick was later checked when I got to the dealer and it was filled only 1/2 way!

:yikes:

The tech removes as much "tupperware" as possible to get a good view. I mentioned to him that another 2011 Spyder RSS SE5 owner mentioned a leak from his oil sensor so that was the first area the tech checked out.

:spyder:

The tech removes the Oil Filter, inspects the O-ring that wasn't seated correctly, then replaces it (O-ring was good: No cracks/tears/kinks). A couple of wipes, then started the engine, and voila--NO MORE LEAKS!

The tech hooks up my Spyder to BUDS--NO FAULT CODES!

:ohyea:

So now I've still got <200 mi. before I take it back to the shop for my 600mi. service.

All of this aggravation was like an old Seinfeld episode--simple fix, and nothing really important happened at the end. :D

Glad to hear it was a simple fix, and hopefully a permanent one as well.

Another thing you will want to watch for is to not overfill the oil tank. You need to check the level when the engine is hot, like right after a ryde, in order to get the most accurate reading. If it is half way up the stick at that point, that is plenty. If it is at the actual full mark, it will blow oil into your air box and make a nice mess out of it. It can take a while for that to leak out and when it does you will notice oil on the lower right flat black piece behind the radiator. Just something to keep in mind so you don't have a need to panic if you see some oil there in the future.
