• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Any thoughts or ideas besides a bad clutch why it would be slipping with less than 8k on it.

It could be low oil, or the wrong type of oil. Also what RPM range do you ride in? The engine and clutch is designed for hi RPM'S.

Also if you are running under 4,000 rpm's for long periods of time you may well have worn the clutch out on the se5 models. Those clutches need to fully engage while ryding and that is about 4,000 rpm. This is a centrifical clutch the new models have a hydraulic clutch and operate at lower rpms...:thumbup:

Lockup stall speed is 3200 rpm not 4000.

:agree: with everyone else. It's extremely likely it's the oil. Which oil did you use?

If it is the oil and if you get it out of there soon enough you may be able to save your clutch.

That's partly true. It's 3200 +/- 200. So some folks take it to 3400 for safety. But 4000 and above in 3rd or higher just makes for better drivability SE or SM.
 
Once I'm out of first gear. I keep mine above 4000 RPM'S as much as possible. The do & do not's recommends keeping it over 4300.
 
The "happy" place for the 990 is between 5000 - 5500. 69 mph in 5th will give me a constant 5000 rpm on my 2011 998.
 
Thanks folks for all the input as far as oil I don't worry about that except for the level it is dealer changed. Also that was the first ride of the year it was fine when parked in Oct. 15 Total miles for ride 100 and it was about 10 miles from home when it got squirrrely Iwill recheck oil level and post more Thanks again for input. :)

You have to warm the oil up if not the clutch will chatter that happens on my 2 friends 998 cc bikes
