• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

1 gear not engaging

2013 SE5 4400 miles When taking off in 1st gear , starting to happen more often, it does not fully engage. There is a noise, sounds like a machine gun, then once the bike starts to move a little it engages and takes off.
Any ideas about what can be happening? Like to have this fixed before we leave for our trip in july.

Depends....

Could be gears but more likely the clutch. Gears would mean no movement and just grinding clutch is more noises but once engaged you can roll on. Semi auto will be more likely to have this problem the manual you will know because you control the clutch operation. :dontknow:

It sounds as if clutch failure is imminent. Could be in the clutch hydraulic system but in any case you need to get it addressed before any other damage happens.

Today I took my bike for a ride. Had no problem with 1st gear engaging. Ran great. Not sure what to do next. Called my dealer. They never serviced a clutch before. Yikes.
Any thoughts?

When this happened on my 2012 RT, the dealer reset the TPS. The problem went away. That was 10,000 miles ago.

Did you ever get a satisfactory result re your issues, and what was the problem? After completing a ride recently, my 2011 RSS SE5 has the same issues, and as the nearest Can Am dealer is 950 miles away, I would like to get some idea where to start looking to resolve the problem.

Just a thought. I always let my SE5 warm up to three bars before putting it in gear. Really doesn't take that long. I'll do a walk around, put my riding gear on while it's warming up. It still clanks when shifting into gear the first time, but never shutters on throttle up. Oh, and I have the new clutch design too. jm2c

In my case described above, I just returned from a 175 mile ride, pulled into the service station to refuel and the noise appeared when trying to take off.
My bike has only ever seen 3 bars a couple of years ago on a cold winters day, the rest of the time, normal operating is 5 bars.

I have found if I let my idle speed settle down after starting it will go into gear much quieter.
