2012 Spyder RT A&C SE5, 57,900 miles
NO Fault Codes
I would appreciate your suggestions.
These issues happen after the engine warms up.
1. Frequently won’t shift from 1st to 2nd until at least 30 mph. In the past, it had been 27-28 mph. When it tries to shift at a lower mph, it acts like it wants to shift but only revs up. Not every time. See 2.d. below. This issue still happens since the clutch was adjusted. It started after the shift angle rotation sensor was replaced.
2. Gets stuck in reverse. Not every time but most of the time.
a. If the engine is turned off and restarted, it will usually shift to Neutral like it is supposed to do. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 shut downs.
b. When push to shift up into Neutral, you hear gears grinding, trying to shift.
c. When it finally shifts up into Neutral, it will shift into 1st gear no problem.
d. Last week the local Dealer said that they checked and adjusted the clutches. I drove home, about 12 miles, put it into reverse, it still did the same thing.
e. Both issues still occur. NOW,
1.) When manually down shifting there is a brief engine rev before down shifting.
2.) When in reverse and try to shift into neutral, the engine still revs and can hear the gears
trying to shift.
3.) On the instrument panel, the check engine comes on, the brake-on light (the brake is not turned on) and current gear light blinks and a “E” shows.

3/19/2019 42,241 Replaced broken gear shift lever.
9/10/2021 53,000 Replaced broken gear shift lever.
9/29/2022 56,959 Replaced broken gear shift lever. Different Dealer. They also replaced
all related parts and bled the clutch which the local dealer had not
done the previous two times.
11/30/2022 57,630 Same issues. Found oil leak from valve covers leaking onto back of
the gear position sensor. Replaced the gaskets and the shift
angle rotation sensor. Drove home and the problem continued.
12/10/2022 57,632 Same issues. Could not duplicate. Problem continued.
1/6/2023 57,884 Returned to Dealer. Drove around their lot and got stuck in Reverse.
I was able to get the Service Writer and Mechanic to come out to
see what is happening. The Mechanic said he had no idea what
was happening and they need to submit a request to Can Am
for guidance. This is when the clutch was adjusted (a Can Am
suggestion?).
