• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

**** "DO'S & DO NOTS" for NEW SPYDER OWNERS... ****

If you have a RTS SE5 with a 998 engine, put it into Trailer Mode to see what RPM's you can shift out of 1st gear. You'll find you cannot shift to 2nd gear till it hits higher RPM's.

**** "DO'S & DO NOTS" for NEW SPYDER OWNERS... ****

This comment was not to be taken literally, but rather was an attempt to have new riders realize they are not in an enclosed vehicle when riding a Spyder, and the experience is not going to be the same. They should just enjoy the experience of being in the wind. That's all it was referencing...

    Newby and RT cruise control

You have been given the remedy to your problem in some of these posts. Thought I would add this paragraph from the Do's and Do Not's for New Spyder Owners thread: Cruise Control Hint: When disengaging the cruise control the Spyder makes an abrupt slow down. To eliminate this, slightly...

    2012 spyder RT catches fire

An old thread, I realize, but was surprised no one mentioned the list of potential reasons for a fire on 2012's and 13's; especially "senior members". Three recalls happened in 2012 and 2013, and all involved the risk of fires. BRP recalled about 8,200 Spyders because brake fluid leaks could...

**** "DO'S & DO NOTS" for NEW SPYDER OWNERS... ****

I have mine hooked-up at all times when not riding, with the top-cover on it. That is the smaller cover that only covers the top-half of the Spyder. A full cover would likely not present a problem since it is a tender instead of a charger; however, for myself, I would allow for some circulation...

Progress Report: 700 Mile Mark - It's True!

I use a cramp-buster, and only ride on back roads; as twisted as I can find. I have arthritis and have no choice but to use one. A cramp-buster works well when having to constantly change speeds; unlike a cruise control, which locks the throttle to a specific speed. Cramp-buster simply allows...

I wonder where the HD riders are going?

I get disappointed when I hear people say these things. Just so you know, bike buyers under age 30 buy more Harley's than any other bike. Check your information out before you speak ill of others...

I wonder where the HD riders are going?

U.S. demographics will affect several businesses over the next 10-15 years. There is a drop in the population just after the last baby-boomers go into retirement. Housing is an area that many expect to see a slow-down in sales just at about the time some baby-boomers are wanting to down-size...

    998cc VS 1330cc engines

I like the 998 RTS I own, and I have plenty of experience with both the 998 & 1300. The 998 engine is a great motor if operated correctly. No regrets of owning one. ;)

**** "DO'S & DO NOTS" for NEW SPYDER OWNERS... ****

The post was/is merely a suggestion from many who have years (since the Spyder inception), and miles of experience with the 998 Spyder. Your view would be a minority view. However, there are some who simply cannot bring themselves to run any engine at a higher rpm no matter what. Again, that...

**** "DO'S & DO NOTS" for NEW SPYDER OWNERS... ****

You have valid questions. First, all engines will have wear, as you know; and certainly there are various types of wear on an engine depending on how it is run, or how it is operated under load. The recommendations for the higher rpm's on the 998 engine is primarily due to its...

**** "DO'S & DO NOTS" for NEW SPYDER OWNERS... ****

No offense but this has been parsed, covered, uncovered, cooked, stewed, and broiled. This info on the two different engines has been verified through several years practical experience and data by many experienced riders. If you have a 998 engine, then you may want to follow the advice; but...

**** "DO'S & DO NOTS" for NEW SPYDER OWNERS... ****

No reference directly to the F3; but rather the 1330 engine itself. It is mentioned and covered.

**** "DO'S & DO NOTS" for NEW SPYDER OWNERS... ****

There is generally a rule about tires... do not use tires after 6 years -- period. It is also important one looks at new tires for their manufacture date. While it is rare, a dealer could sell you news tires that are six-years old. The advice... do not buy them. Glad to hear you are okay.

    F3s SE6 downshifting, problem?

This appears to be a known problem. See this link to learn more about it: http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/s...=1#post1134444 A cracked vacuum hose has also been a culprit causing shifting problems. However, the fact you can upshift just fine, makes it less likely it is a vacuum hose for...

    How smooth are spyders

I will slightly differ with many of the posts on here. I own several types of vehicles and ride them often. For me, my Harley Ultra Limited is much smoother than my Spyder(s) (900 series and 1330). My experience with HD trikes is that they are also smoother than my Spyder(s). As mentioned...

**** "DO'S & DO NOTS" for NEW SPYDER OWNERS... ****

It is explained in detail within the text that is specific to the 1330 engine if you re-read just that section (very first post). In short however, for the 1330's, the important thing to remember is when to shift out of first to second. It should be at or above 2500 rpm's. Many shift out...

**** "DO'S & DO NOTS" for NEW SPYDER OWNERS... ****

It is mentioned within the text, but is specific to SE5 & 6. I will change it to include manual shift as well. SE5/SE6 shifting problems / Cracked Vacuum Hoses: Cracked (dry-rotted) vacuum hoses are related to shifting problems on the SE5's. Heat seems to be the culprit. Have these checked...

**** "DO'S & DO NOTS" for NEW SPYDER OWNERS... ****

While this information does seem to apply only to the SE5; the shifting points and rpm's do apply for the manual shift 900 series engine and tranny. Coming off a Harley V-twin, you'll need to get used to running your rpm's higher than you are accustomed with your Harley. Running your model...
