• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    DESS Key code again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Question for Larryd I reviewed your posts in this thread and earlier threads about your DESS problem. It sounds to me like you have your original factory-installed ignition switch. Is that correct? I'm interested because that would imply that the current BRP thinking is that the new...

    Clutch Problem

A little better description of your symptoms would help. What do you mean by the fluid is "good"? Do you mean the level is OK? Is is clear or is it black and cloudy? Is it hard to engage first gear when stopped? In any event, Freebob is probably on the right track in that your slave...

    1330 oil level......

Unfortunately it does match up with something, Bob. It matches up with the original instructions for 2014 oil changes found in the owner's manual. The 2014 manual specifies adding 5.6 qts for an SE with filter change and 5.9 qts when the HCM filter is included. That manual is out-of-date and...

    Replacing battery

Factory Filled Battery Others here will disagree but if you follow Yuasa's and BRP's recommendations, you will use a factory-filled and charged battery. The BS stands for "bottle supplied" meaning bottle-supplied acid. The detailed Yuasa catalogs show the Spyders with the laid over batteries...

    1330 oil level......

Starting Point :agree: The third bullet "...A new dipstick is not necessary since the oil level in the oil tank doesn’t change, only the method of adding the initial amount before final level verification. In other words, it's easier to add more oil if you underfill than to remove excess oil...

    DESS Key code again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Part Number Update Hot off the press. BRP has updated their on-line manuals for 2016. They now show 710004916 as the DESS module for 2016 RT's. The ignition switch remains 710004277 as it was for 2015 models. However, the news is that BRP now shows the previous DESS modules for earlier...

No one is suggesting ignoring viscosity. Just trying to provide background info on another parameter -- TBN.

Plan to Tour the 4 corners of the USA

When we rode the Trans Siberian RR across the Soviet Union (does anyone remember the USSR?) in 1981, we met a fellow American (retired Air Force) who did just that while traveling around the world. He pointed out an added benefit -- as you discard stuff, you gain space for local purchases and...

    oil test

I was pleased it was still a respectable 6.1 after 8100 miles. The two references indicated you have a concern when it's less than 3 or less than 1 (take your pick). I did this test when changing the oil after a run to Alaska and was very pleased it held up that well for 8100 miles in a 998...

    oil test

Your reference refers to the Acid Number which is a measure of the acidity in the oil, not Total Base Number. Total Base number is the reserve alakalinity available to counter future acid generation. Below are several excerpts from different sources explaining TBN. For reference, when I...

    belt tension

BRP didn't do themselves any favors in the way they presented it, in my opinion. The simplified version would be: Front outside flange gap is "X". Rear flange gap is "Y". Y must be in the following range (mm): Y = 3.25 - X +/- 2.75 Note 1 -- belt must not contact more than ONE flange...

    belt tension

Just another nit, but it gets more complicated than that. Up thru 2012 BRP said the 998 RT's should be 1.0mm minimum. Then in 2013 they changed it to 0.5mm minimum. Since this thread started with a question about 1330's, it gets more complicated. The spec for the 2014 and 2015 1330 RT's is...

BRP oil in a 998 engine.

Just as a point of comparison on the 998's. In my 2011RT I ran 8100 mi on a trip to Alaska using Amsoil 10/40. Analysis showed viscosity of 12.06 cSt @ 100C -- the high end of the "30" range. Total Base Number was 6.1. Everything else checked out fine as well. I'm not promoting Amsoil...

What a mess ….. first oil change on my 1330

:agree: Always used a hose on my 2011 and it worked great. Tried doing that on the 1330 and it doesn't work. It took a few oil changes on the 2011 to perfect the technique. I'm sure the 1330 will be no different. Two so far, third coming up shortly.

    belt tension

900 N (newtons not foot pounds) was correct. The spec for 2014 RT's is 1050 N +/- 150 N (i.e. 900 - 1200 N). I don't feel comfortable with the 1050 spec and we always went below that, like 850 or so, a little below the minimum. I don't experience any vibrations. The recent TST from BRP...

    in the shop

That's true for the 2010 thru 2012 RT's as the battery is laid over on its side and could possibly leak if not properly charged to absorb all the acid. Factory-filled batteries are charged properly to prevent that. YTX24HL is the factory-filled battery designation. However, beginning with...

    DESS Key code again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Three Wheels, thanks for the part number. It shows up as an "unknown" part number so it could indeed be a 2016 that hasn't made the parts list yet. If so, we have three consecutive model years with three different DESS numbers (with the latest 2014 number being an upgraded number). And at...

    DESS Key code again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These changes are going to drive us, and the tech's, crazy. BRP did change the DESS for 2014's to the 710004190 number, as we all know by now. More recently, they changed the 2014 ignition switch number also, from 710003598 to 710004413. I recall that is the number they installed on your 2014...

    Interesting Toe-In Article

That's the way I read it as well. But it's the first I've heard of anyone not using the settings recommended by ROLO. Hope Lamonster or Cptjam or one of the other heavy users of the system can clarify for us.

    New Oil filetes

Careful with the numbers. A review of the BRP website shows the following: 420956743 -- 2014 1330 filter with mesh (that's what I've been using in mine) 420956744 -- 2015 1330 filter with mesh (note different number from 2014's) 420956747 -- 2014 998 filter with mesh 420956747 -- 2015 998...
