Did you get a second key when you bought your Spyder?

Lucky for you it started. Will you be taking your Spyder to your Can-Am dealership about the D.E.S.S. error?

Keep us posted and Good luck! Deanna
Yes, I have a second key, but it was at home and I was 300 miles away. I will be taking it to the dealer.

Let them know that it has been happening on other Spyder models (a 2014 RTS-SE6 - mine, and on the 2015 RTS-SE6) Did you have to use roadside assistance?

Let us know what your Can-Am dealership says.

On my 2014RTS-SE6 my dealership replaced the D.E.S.S. module (twice, on my 2nd one), ignition switch, reprogramed both keys, and changed the rear trunk key lock - have your dealership give you a new spare barrel lock (for a trailer). Deanna

Deanna, thank you for this thread and all the info you and others have provided. I too have a 2014 RT-SE6 that came up with the DESS ERROR message on Sept.20th. I was 550 miles from home on a ride to visit my 93 yr. old mother. I tried all the tricks for 4 hours. Finally had AAA tow the Spyder to Ride Now Power Sports in Ocala, Florida. It was a Sunday, had to wait until Monday to talk with service. Meanwhile, I took a taxi to a motel for the night, another taxi back to dealership in the morning, paid $75.00 to overnight the DESS module. Instead of hanging out and paying for another motel, I rented a car and drove the 100 miles to my mother's house. Ride Now did a great job and got me back on the road Tuesday afternoon. I made it back home with no problems, but worried every time I turned off Spyder, if it would start again. This is my 3rd Spyder with 80,000 miles between them and the first time I've ever been stranded. I hope I don't have to go through that again with the ignition or another DESS Module. It's all part of the adventure of touring and I'll buy another Spyder after this one. Thanks all for listening.

I would like to say to everyone that has posted on this thread (and the first thread - Pictures of the D.E.S.S. key code on a 2014RTS-SE6) that got the D.E.S.S. error key code/and had the D.E.S.S module/ignition switch changed and had their keys reprogramed and etc. for posting on this thread for helping to get the word out to BRP to fix this problem and make them aware of the problem that we (Spyder Owners) are/have been having.

Sounds like that you had adventure when you got the D.E.S.S. error message, and that Ride Now Powersports in Ocala, FL. took care of it for you/and got you back on the road on Tuesday. I had a the D.E.S.S. Module replaced twice, within a monthk.

Did "Ride Now Powersports" give you a difficult time about the D.E.S.S. error?

Was the work done under warranty?

I had a 2012 RTS-SE5 and I did not get the D.E.S.S. key code. Yes, I agree with you it is all part of the adventure of touring. Deanna

Has anyone who owns an F3 spyder have you had the D.E.S.S. Key code happen to you?

I'm having some work done on my Spyder and they are replacing the DESS module with a new 2016 version.
I don't know what is new, but BRP is pretty insistent that the 2016 model DESS is installed.

I was getting some very loud static background through my bluetooth system.
After replacement of the D.E.S.S. module with the 2016 design, the background noise seems to have gone.

Did your can-am dealer reprogram both keys/and changed the back trunk lock?

No need for that. The part they changed was the electronic module, Not the ignition.

The 2nd time I had the D.E.S.S. error, my can-am dealership replaced the D.E.S.S Module, ignition Switch, changed the lock in the rear trunk, gave me a new trailer lock, & reshaped both of my keys.

Did they replace the D.E.S.S. module?

What is the part # for the electronic module?

These changes are going to drive us, and the tech's, crazy. BRP did change the DESS for 2014's to the 710004190 number, as we all know by now. More recently, they changed the 2014 ignition switch number also, from 710003598 to 710004413. I recall that is the number they installed on your 2014 this last time around, before the number was even listed in the parts manuals.

For 2015, both the DESS and switch numbers are different from 2014 -- 710004241 for the 2015 DESS and 710004277 for the 2015 switch. Whether they are backward compatible with the 2014 units, who knows?? Did they change the DESS again in 2016 and is it backward compatible? Who knows?? The 2016 part numbers for these parts are not yet on the website that I can find. Pages still under construction. If someone did indeed get a 2016 part, it'd be nice to know the number and what it can be retrofitted to. Does it need a 2016 switch? Apparently not if they did not change the switch and it all works well.

Both of my keys work in the ignition, and my spare key stayed in my closet the whole time this repair was made, so there is no way it was re-programmed.
The DESS module was the only thing replaced.
The part number is 710004916.
This must be backwards compatible with my 2014 RTS, since this is what they installed, and it works fine.......................for now.

Does both of /and spare key work in the ignition?

How come your can-am dealership did not replace the switch?

Does the part # 710004916 compatible with the 2015 spyder?

Or is the part # 710004916 fit the 2016 spyder models?
Get your keys/and spare key reprogramed, my can-am dealership reprogramed my keys the 2nd time.

Yes, the part # 710004413 (Switch) was installed on my 2014RTS-SE6. Let me know when the part # 710004413 shows up on the website. Good Luck, glad I could help.

I agree with you the changes will drive us (Spyder owners) and the tech's crazy. Keep us posted. Deanna

Three Wheels, thanks for the part number. It shows up as an "unknown" part number so it could indeed be a 2016 that hasn't made the parts list yet. If so, we have three consecutive model years with three different DESS numbers (with the latest 2014 number being an upgraded number). And at least two different ignition switch numbers (with the latest 2014 number being an upgraded number). Apparently all compatible but the manuals don't say that the older versions have been upgraded to the newer versions. At least not yet. Stay tuned.

Deanna, the 4413 switch is on the website. It showed up not too long after you had it installed. Isn't it nice to know you were ahead of the curve? :joke:

I'm sorry, I just don't know how to be more explicit.

My Can Am dealer did not replace my ignition switch because it was deemed unnecessary.
Perhaps this is a sign of the evolution of diagnosing these DESS problems.

gypsy: yes it is nice to know that I was ahead of the curve.

Does anyone know if the ignition Switch Part # and the D.ES.S. module part #'s on the website yet? Deanna
