Oil pressure gauge & sending unit install?

Question??

Can an Oil pressure gauge be installed on the F3? I've seen some of the 2015 1330 RTS limited and such with an oil pressure gauge...if so where does the oil pressure sending unit go, can anybody post pictures of the location of the oil pressure sender unit please and thanks

Suggestion...

you should really get a shop manual if your going to do this kinda mods. You will have to tee off the oem sending unit or the nanny will put a halt to all your fun... not familiar with the new engine...:dontknow:

If you do this run a line from the engine sending unit location to the frame and mount the T to the frame with the original pressure switch and the new sending unit
If you install the T right on the engine with both sending units it will eventually break.
Get a shop manual or look at the parts diagram and you can find the oil pressure switch

Question??

Does the F3 have an oil pressure sender?

And no I don't have a shop manual yet can't afford the 180$ price tag for one!!!

Mike, I do not know the answer to your exact question about a sending unit. You have got me anticipating a next mod for our 14 RTs. The other day, when you asked about mounting the sender, I took my manual and gave a look for locations to tap into for the oil pressure.

The manual shows an oil galley plug to remove and install a test gage for pressure verification. The manual also specifies the pressures at this point (which should be the same throughout the lubrication system). I tried to capture the info to post but that did not work. Send me a PM with your email and maybe tonight I can forward that info if someone else does not post it first. This is the spot I plan to use when I install an oil pressure gage.

My problem will be finding ones I like that fit the two existing instrument panel holes of the RTs.

All in time though since the moto budget for May and part of June is spent between the Spyder and the KTM.

Should be a 52mm gauge to fit into the gauge hole?

Another location to get oil pressure

From the 1330 shop manual there is a port on the 1330 engine for attaching a test gauge for checking oil pressure. I would use that port instead of using adapters to tap into where the sending unit is.

Mike, the Doc has taken my post and used the information I had planned to send you. That is the location I plan to find and see if it is viable for an oil pressure pickup (no obstructions). As you can see, the manual also specifies minimum pressures at idle and 4000 rpm. This was exactly the info I found and planned to use when I put range markings on the gage.

Also, use care when sealing the fitting. Do not use teflon tape or anything besides what is listed by BRP. Also, ensure the male and female threads are spotless before appying the Loctite. Loctite 243 is good stuff and is approved for less than sterile threads. I personally will use Brakleen, CRC brand in the red can. The safe stuff tends to leave a residue. Consider, this is an oil galley and a leak would be under pressure and could pump the engine dry in an extreme case.

All the best with it.

Quick question if I may ?? Why do you recommend not using Teflon Tape and I'm assuming BRP's recommendation is Loctite. If so is 243 Loctite the blue colour ??

Loctite 243 is one of several Blue Loctites. Each is different. 243 is common and a very good choice for many applications.

As for Teflon tape, it can work, however, it can also be a concern if the fitting is taped too close to the end threads or the fitting is removed and tape fragments made their way into the oil galley. This could starve one of the lubricated surfaces of oil. As a comparison, almost exclusiveley sealing compound is used on expensive engines rather than Teflon tape.

Teflon tape for household plumbing is fine, worse case is it gets into a faucet and drips.

PMK,

Do you think the stock oil pressure sensor that would come with the oil pressure gauge will fit into the plug hole or will an adaptor be require??
