Bottom line, it happened in a sparsely populated area and therefore, no death or bad destruction to property.
We were 400 miles away from the epicenter here in Chugiak. The stuff on the shelves made rattling noises but we had to pay close attention to feel the movement that went with it. It lasted for over 30 seconds the first time and about 20 seconds the second time. If this had been in our immediate area, the ground liquifaction would have taken place and there would have been some big damage.
The long and large quakes are the killers.
The good news, usually, a quake of this magnitude relieves some of the stress within the ground plates.
