I have read lots of reviews on the mpg of the RT Limited(2014)...How at 60-65mph can get you 52mpg....I would love to know the secret...I normally don't pay attention to mpg but yesterday I went on my 1st turnpike ride on the RT..I put 216 miles on her...Now, After 155 miles(125 on the turnpike), I stopped to fill up because the needle was getting real low. I put 4.9 gls in..That comes out to a hair over 30mpg..I kept it at 60-68 on the turnpike...I was hoping to get atleast 40 mpg so I was somewhat and still are concerned...Most of my riding on day trips will be country rds avg maybe 50mph..So I am thinking I will avg in the mid 20s mpg.....I don't use the eco mode but I do shift pretty close to that...Could there be something wrong with the machine or is this a case of operator error?

I don't know where you saw 52 mpg, way to high for normal riding. I have gotten over 50 mpg but that was easy acceleration and the speed was 45-50 in the mountains. That being said riding down the interstate at 60-65 you should get around 38-40. Lots of variables, how much throttle do you use to get to the shift points, are you bucking a head wind. Head wind will make a big difference. 10mph head wind and you running 65+ your bike feels like it is pushing through the air at 75+.

Steve,
I have a 2014 RTL SE6 and I use the Eco mode 90% of the time. I have 7,000 miles on my spyder now and I have been getting 37-40 mpg on each tank of fuel. I ride mostly back roads and try to avoid the Interstates and Turnpikes. My average speed is 45mph and I pull my RT 622 trailer most of the time. How many miles are on your Spyder. After break in the mileage improves.

:shocked: I agree; where did "52 mpg" come from? :dontknow:
I'm averaging 39.5 mpg
My worst tankful was 35.4 mpg
My Best: 43.4

It's the dance that your right wrist is doing with the "oud grip".. :D

Didn't BRP release a video claiming something like 260 miles per tank? I'm not even getting close to 200 on mine, more like 160 to 170 per tank. I only have 2k miles on it though.......

My 2014 RT-S has 970 something miles on it so it is still just out of the crate. I have filled it/topped off for trips six times and have 36.8 mpg average. I run in Eco mode and do not whack the loud handle. That said, I've made two trips to/from the NC mountains that involved a good amount of interstate and limited access high speed road travel in the 65-75 mph range. The one tank I have with little to no interstate travel saw 41.7 mpg. I'm also still trying to get a consistent fill point when the pump nozzle cuts off and it seems I've now about got it pegged where I am reaching the fill picture on page 57 of the owners manual. On the other end of the gauge I'm also trying to define just where that "better refuel now, or else" point is on my analog gauge. The real bottom line for me is I'm not going to worry about squeezing every last 0.1 of mpg out of it because it will spoil the fun and, more important, I won't consider the numbers reliable until after the 3,000 mile service.

Thanks to the wonderful advise of members on this site I recently traded my 2011 RTS SM5 (Which I loved) for a 2014 RT Limited SE6. I couldn't be happier. I am all over the place as far as riding goes. I ride hard when I am with my friends who mainly have the RS's & most of the time I have the Wife on the back. A lot of the rides I do a lot of freeway mainly getting to where we are meeting and I use my cruise control almost all the time while on the freeway and I am usually set to 70 to 75 mph . I have never taken it off of ECO mode, mainly because I just never think to try it. I am around 1500 miles in a little over a month & my average has been the same every fill up. 38.5mpg. I did get 39mpg once, but that has been my best so far. I have never dropped below 38.5mpg. I have heard that as you break it in more it gets better, but I am extremely happy so far, but I have been meaning to ask (Especially, Bob Denman) who's advise I really pay attention to, what changes when you take it off ECO?
The reason I haven't asked Bob any questions is that until he recently changed his avatar it really freaked me out just to look at it:yikes:, lol.
If you figure out what is causing your low MPG make sure to post & let us know.

There is a strong inverse relationship between speed and fuel economy. One study of automobiles I saw showed a 17% decrease in fuel economy going from 55 to 70 mph on the same highway. Just as one more data point, My first fuel economy test on a new 2014 RT-S showed 36.9 mpg on mostly back roads at 45 - 55 mph, at close to the maximum weight limit. I have read many times on this forum that fuel economy increases steadily for the first 1000 miles or so. I am good with that.

I rode Goldwings for many years. The best economy I got on my 2004 was 46 mpg. The worst I ever got was 32 mpg. Its all in the right wrist.

Biggest factor is your speed -

What Art Said--- The RT's have a lot of drag and don't come close to having the sleek drag coefficients of the Prius like body styles. There are a lot of crevices to add drag and turbulance adds air resistance as the square of any net speed difference. Driving 70 with a 10 mph headwind increases your drag 4 times what it is at 40 mph with still air. :lecturef_smilie:

If you want fuel economy slow and steady wins the race.

The brochure says 252 miles...
My farthest "Stretch of The Tank", has been 220.2 miles. It took 5.188 gallons. (42.4 mpg)
If it does hold 6.9 gallons; 252 is more than reachable! :thumbup:

I have put 4000 miles on my 2014 RT Ltd, and have never seen more than 35 mpg. I consistently get around 30. I never use ECO mode, and I tend to accelerate fairly rapidly. Most of my miles are on country roads, but even on highway rides in West Texas (with a passenger) I don't see anything close to 40mpg. But I didn't buy the Spyder to save on gas. I figure that the difference in a fun 30mpg and a careful 40mpg cost me about $30/1000 miles. The thrill is worth it.

I don't use the ECO mode much at all. The Spyder is more responsive with it off, you will notice a difference coming off the line and when passing other vehicles. If you hold the throttle steady and put the ECO on you you feel the Spyder slow down and likewise still holding the throttle steady and take the ECO off the Spyder will speed back up. Even my wife prefers to ride with it off unless we are on cruise control where you'll not notice the difference.
As far as gas mileage I don't really check it I just ride.;)

They did, but they qualified it with X mph. I don't remember the mph mentioned in the video though...Help........

MPG is going to be all over the place. It boils down to weather conditions, wind, weight, uphill, downhill, how much throttle, aggressive or passive driving, etc., etc.

I have been doing a mileage test of sorts over five different :spyder2:'s, three different models, and now two different engine configurations. My driving covers over 100,000 miles. I fill the same each time, my driving is on the "recommended side." Keeping the rpms in the 5000's on the 998's and shifting at 2750 - 3000 on the 1330.

For me:

:ani29:: 998's 2008 SM5, 2009 SE5, 2010 RT-S, and 2011 RT
I have pretty much averaged 30 - 31 mpg. Low 28 and high 34.
90,000 miles and counting.

:ani29:: ACE 1330 Average 39 - 40 mpg. High 43 and Low 34. 10K miles so far.

: Eco Mode--maybe one mpg for me. I don't like it and find it distracting.

:agree: I'm a newbie, but my 2013 Limited has 9K, and I get about 35-38 mpg maybe.
