No oil on the stick

159 miles ago I had my first $400.00 oil change,that was two weeks ago.yesterday I went on a 100+ mile ride?today I was cleaning my spyder ( got rained on,big time ) I decided to check the oil,I started it up got it to operating temp,shut it off took the dipstick out,swiped it off,put it back in,took it out,bone dry,did the whole procedure again,still nothing.
what am I doing wrong,it's a 2013 ST S SE5 no indication on the dash that oil is low.

Put a couple ounces in. Ride it to get it hot, shut it off and then check it. If it still isn't on the stick add a couple more ounces. It's best to check it after a ride when it's good and hot. There is no "low oil" light.

When I turn the key on the oil indicator stays red until I start it then it goes away.

letting it ideal is not enough you must ride it for at least 15 min then check the oil :chat:

That's because the oil pressure hasn't gotten woke-up yet...

The bottom line is, just letting the spyder sit and idle until the gauge shows the engine is warm is not the way to do it.

You need to take it for a ride to get the oil to circulate properly and to bring the spyder up to its proper operating temp.

When I do what you have just the oil stick shows no oil but when I go for a ride and then check the oil level it show there is oil on the stick. I have a 2010 RTS SE5.
If I am going to check the oil level I will check it right after I arrive home from a days ride,
I always carry a quart of oil with me, so that I can check and add oil when we stop for a lunch break while out riding.

There is!! It's called the check engine light but you are sol if it comes on!!!

Got this from A BRP certified tech.

Start engine, let idle until cooling fan comes on, continue idle until cooling fan comes on a second time. Shut down and check oil.

I did a comparison of this procedure and driving for half hour then checking oil. Both gave same reading.

You're getting some good advice here from other members. I would like to add that the proper procedure for checking the oil is in your owner's manual. The way you checked your oil is NOT correct. When in doubt read your manual.

:agree: You have to ride it first then check. Shortly after I bought my STL I did the idle in the garage until I had 4 bars on the temp gauge. Pulled dip stick NO OIL! I added 8 ounces to get it 3/4 of the way to the full mark. Yhe next day after a ride I checked it again it was way over full. I attached a piece of gas line hose to a turkey baster and guess what? I took about 8 ounces back out. This is an SE5 so I think riding it and warming up the tranny makes a big difference. Maybe an SM not so much? I am not the one to answer that question.

Try this..!!

if your not ryding..run the engine till the fan comes on. Check the level at this point. Add as needed a little at a time (it's easier to add than remove). Keep the level above half and below full. I check the oil after coming off a long ryde. But your manual tells you to check oil every so often. I hear the 1330ACE is really good on oil but the rest use oil...so check it..!! :thumbup:
