Fuel gauge question...

I had a fuel light that would come on just about any time it felt like it. Once it came on while I was returning home from the gas station, a distance of less than 2 miles. Diagnosis revealed that the sending unit was erratic and the entire cluster had to be replaced. This was done and the gauge now works fine. One downside- when the cluster is replaced the odometer is reset to 0, so you start all over again. I put a note in my journal that the real mileage on the machine is actually 3760 miles more than shows on the speedo. Strange machine!

Interesting...I've actually taken my cluster out and cleaned the inside plastic...there were some 'snail trails' and they were bothering me...used a microfiber cloth to clean it...snapped it back together...now all is fine...disconnecting, disassembling, and reconnecting doesn't zero anything...I guess only if you replace with different cluster...

I am glad to hear this. I got my Spyder in October and have been disappointed in the MPG ~ 24mpg..a minimum of 30 is what I'm after.

I also ran my tank dry and put 6.7 gals in, so I would say 6.6 is pretty accurate.

The mileage does get better with time...the hindle also helps, a little...I think in the early days of my riding that my gear shifting wasn't finely tuned...now that I am more comfortable, I ride smoother and the mileage has responded in kind...

Also, as is the case with cars, open road mileage is much better than when in traffic.

If you replace the cluster, the mileage and all records start at zero, EXCEPT the total hours driven. Apparently that's a computer keeper. Can't see why they can't do the same for miles driven. I had mine changed when it got really badly warped by a sun-caused refective focal point off the inside of the windshield.
