• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2013 analog gauges

I have seen pictures on this board where the 2013's don't have their analog gauges but have power outlet of differing types in their places. 1) is this done for a specific rwson. 2) if so is it done by the individual or by then dealer for you. Which brings us to 3) does it affect the warranty in any way.

Any info is greatly appreciated

When removing the analog guages, the fuel and temp scales default back to the main screen. In my case I installed an electric accessory plug on one side, and my hidden radar detector readout on the opposite side. The original analog gas guage never was accurate to begin with.
:yikes:

The base RT does not have gauges. I had a cig plug installed in the cap over the hole and RTV'ed it. I use it for USB charging my phone when using GPS on it. It goes to the jumper points and does not affect the warranty. It is fused too.

My experience has been that the digital screen gauges are more accurate. I had two analog gauges replaced under warranty on the 2010 RT-S and neither of them worked satisfactory for me. The needles would wobble almost over two bars--so I was never sure what the gauges were showing.

I disconnected the analog gauges on the 2010 after that. The first thing I did on the 2011 when we got it, was to disconnect the gauges--since akspyderlady did not like the wobbly gauge either.

That said: I use the gauges to give me an approximate reading of fuel remaining. I always zero the trip meter so that I know how many miles are on the tank. By looking at the gauge, I can tell pretty much when the refill light is going on--OR--I can look at the trip meter and get the same information. 99% of the time, the light goes on for us right around 150 miles into a ride. When I am on long trips, or unfamiliar with gas stations, I get gas where I find it right around 100 miles or so. By then, I am ready to get off and stretch anyway.

I'm just trying to decide if removing the analog fuel and temp. Gauges and putting some type of power plug in would be a good way to go. This is my first rt so I'm asking you guys that have been around a while to get some ideas.

A lot have done the above and if you want more gauges, by all means go for it. The sky is the limit. We have even talked about altimeters and dilithium crystal indicators. :roflblack:

The only way any mod can affect the warranty in the US is if the specific problem can be traced to the mod as the causal factor.

There are other ways to add a power plug. I put Powerlet outlets into the front speaker grills. They pop right out, so it is pretty simple.

I was also thinking of installing an accessory outlet. Are the powerlet outlets plug and play or are there splicing required? Are they fused?

Are the guages easy to remove? Are there accessory plugs that fit the opening or are there blanks available?
I apologize for all the questions. I too am kinda new to Spyder mods. Thanks.

Blank plugs are fairly inexpensive and are available from your dealer.

Nothing in that regard is really plug-n-play. The cigarette-type outlets come closest, if you can get to the pre-wired connector (provided the 2013's still has one) in the harness and run it far enough to feed your outlet. The connector and pigtail is normall located behind the trunk on the left side, near the left spring/shock...at least that is where it was on the earlier RT's. I prefer the Powelets, because thay are smaller and the plugs stay in them better, but they do require adapters to feed some equipment or heated gear, and they will require some wiring. I also recommend an auxiliary fuse block for added accessory outlets...which will definitely require some wiring.

Does anybody have "before & after" pictures of their dash when removing these gauges? I just kind of wonder if it cleans things up a bit... or does it start looking a bit "sparse"?
(NOT talking about replacing the gauges with anything; just their removal...)

Bob

the dash with the gauges removed and inserts put in wth no other mods will look exactly like the basic RT Dash.
