• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I had my spyder in the shop to have rear sprocket replace......now with 4000 miles on belt adjustment I can pull the belt off with no force at all! It seems way to early to have to adjust the belt again........ love my spyder....don't like my dealer

2012 rs se5.....the rear sprocket had the paint flacking off of it so brp gave me a new one. The spyder had 18000 miles on it and now has 22000 miles on it. I was changing rear pads and doing an oil change when I noticed how lose the belt was.....you could slide it right off the side of the sprocket! I also noticed the exhaust pipe is almost cracked in half so if my local dealer can't get a belt adjusted right how can I let them try to fix anything!!!!! So there is the story....belt, sprocket, and now exhaust. If anyone thinks the belt can become that lose in 4k let me know:2thumbs:

I don't know what bolts tighten to adjust the belt, but perhaps they didn't tighten them or locktight them and now 4000 miles later they are loose enough to cause the belt to be were its at. :dontknow:

It is rare to see a belt that loose in 4000 miles. I would have to wonder if the belt is stretched. What is the maintenance/replacement on the belt in your owners manual? I assume your local dealer is ASK. I don't know much about the Lancaster location (if that is your dealer), but I bought my 2013 RS from the ASK in Columbus and liked the service I got (FYI if your looking for a new dealer).

ask!!!!

You are right got it at ask and I have never ever had good luck with the service department. .... there parts guy adem is the best if you need a part he will find it get it and give you a great price.....but the owner and service manager I don't have any kind words for them! I will check to see when they recommend belt replacement.

The belt should not be that loose under any circumstace and the cracked exhaust should be a warranty item. That said, if you have NO confidence in the service dept at the dealer you alluded to. Find a new dealer.

They could not fix my last bike and the owner and service manger and I have had some not so kind words...the problem is they are the only shop around....I took it to another shop 40 miles away...great ryde but they did not fix it right either. So any good shop in ohio that is not ask would be great!

loose belt

I have never seen much stretch in any of my belt driven bikes. Therefore I believe the dealer did not adjust it correctly when he replaced the rear pulley and you just noticed it. If the rear wheel is not wobble loose then it just need adjustment. First notify the dealer of the problem and see if they will redo the adjustment for NC. If they are not willing then the adjustment is not too difficult to do but you need a couple of large wrenches and a way to measure the belt tension. I have a kriket that does the trick although the dealer uses a sonic instrument. Jack up the rear wheel and just loosen the axle nuts and then carefully turn the two adjustment screws equally to move the axle rearward. They are located on each side of the swing arm. Continue to rotate the wheel after each adjustment. Check that the belt location is about 1/8 inch from the inside pulley rim and does not move towards the outside. Just work slowly and keep checking until you are satisfied that the belt run true on the pulley and is not so loose that you can push or pull it off the pulley. Just don't get it too tight. Good luck.

Forgot one important step

After everything is adjusted don't forget to tighten the rear axle nuts.:yikes:

Dealer locator. Try various Ohio or neighboring state zip codes. FWIW I travel 100 mi one way to my dealer. Sometimes that's what a guy/gal has to do.

That would not be good would it......lose axle nuts are no joke! There is a great video on YouTube how to adjust the belt...just like a bike! I think you can even get the tool on Amazon for cheap!

kriket

I think gates makes one...you lay it on the belt and push it down and it will let you know how tight your belt is. Its not the brp official tool but it works great I hear. I think I saw one on Amazon for under $20!

Try your local auto parts stores for the kriket also. A good rule of thumb without the use of a kriket, is you should be able to twist the belt only about 90 degres. good luck.

dealer

We bought our 13RTS at Ask in Columbus.Ed and Patty have treated us great with good service.11,000 miles of smiles. When I took it in for the recall.I was out in the showroom talking to Patty when Ed brought the charcoal cannester out to show me that it had slightley melted and he would have a new one the next day.Patty said to take one from a demo so I wouldn't have to come back.I stopped by to ask them to check the purge valve. It was bad so they had to order one.called me a few days later when it came in.Went over last Sat.20 min later we were on our way.So far nothing major so I guess time will tell.I hope you went in and talked to the service dept about this.I would be interested in what their excuse was because that's not good service.

Like I said the one in lancaster I don't like. The service manager and I have had some words in the past and they were not kind...they sold me a new bike and could not get it running after many times trying and I have to take it to someone else who fixed it and then delivered to my work for me. All I get from ask is arguing and even with an appointment they wanted it for 3 days for rear sprocket....took me 2 hours to change the rear tire did not see 3 days to change sprocket with an appointment and after they got all the parts in.
