There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Spyderhaters Forum

It's almost becoming depressing to log onto this forum lately. I truly feel for all the 2013 owners who have a machine with heat issues, and I've heard many of you voice your concerns a time or two on here. I don't want to be disrespectful to anyone's opinions, but there is this small handful of people who vent about the same issue day after day after day.

I have to agree somewhat with the original post. Granted, I have a 2012 model and BRP had worked out many of the issues from the earlier models. But, some inherent in the design still exist and require the new owner to resolve them. In all most all cases there are solutions to be had. The Spyderpops heat shields for the CAT and radiator block are not expensive and are easy to install, and they work. The emergency brake cable coming loose is the first problem I had and BRP had a fix for it although I fixed it myself before I knew of the recall based on information I found on this site.

The 2013s are not much different from what I've read about the 2008s and 2010s. Version 1 of any product usually has issues that need to be resolved. Given some time there will be aftermarket fixes available as well as changes from BRP. The heat shield for the master cylinder is one of them already. I'm sure we will be seeing a whole new breed of problems related to the 2014s when they hit the streets. If you don't want to deal with them, I suggest you wait a year or two to give the owners some time to find the more serious ones and have BRP or aftermarket vendors come up with fixes.

BRP is in the business of making money and as long as there is profit in a particular model the only thing they will be changing are the recurring safety related problems or improvements that have little effect on the selling price. Other than that, the owners will need to step up and do what needs to be done. It doesn't take a brain surgeon or master mechanic to make or install many of the after market solutions. And, buying them from one of the vendors and taking it into your dealer and expecting them to install it for you is kind of like buying a tea bag and going to a restaurant and asking them to put it in a cup of hot water fro you. They may tell you no way, or they may do it but charge you a significant fee.

Bottom line is, BRP is not going to fix their design to everyone's satisfaction. If you are not prepared to deal with some of the issues on your own by implementing fixes that can be found on this site, then maybe you spent you money on the wrong thing.

JUST MY THOUGHTS ON THIS

I don't have a 2013 , but I do have " EMPATHY " for those that do and are having issues and I think WE as Spyderlovers should be able to understand the problems our brothers and sisters are having .........................Mike

Ice Cream is not the solution the Spyders problem. I appreciate your desire to hijack the thread but let it run it's course it is therapeutic to those who are having problems let us vent puuleeze.

Dave, whenever things seem to be getting a little heated, the reference to ice cream is a gentle reminder to calm down, no one is trying to hijack your thread, just trying to calm it down. try it you might like it.

experience

just speaking from experience when someone is irritated over something it is hard to calm them down. back in my 20's i would bounce in a few bars when they had good bands and the owners would call and ask me to work a night to keep things calm. but everyone knows that drinking makes :cus: holes out of everyone and there is no talking to them so you would have to escort them out, most times by head first. so basically what i am trying to say is, the people that are having problems, like me, don't want sympathy we want answers. so we ask questions and that upsets a few people. the ice cream comments did not upset me, but when people say that we have the poor me's that's when i get upset, now i said to myself last night that i was not going to comment here anymore on this post, but to quote RODNEY KING when he was getting his :cus: kicked by the police " CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG "

Yum

Just had Ben And Jerry's Vanilla Heath Bar Crunch las night that was fabulous. And don't poo poo Bacon Ice Cream until you have had it. Went to a bacon Fest yesterday and they had all kinds of goodies. Bacon ice cream made with Bacon pralines. Yummy:yes:

I prefer Cherry Garcia but that is a whole nuther thread....:gaah:

To all the 13 owners out there, I have sympathy for you, and I feel you should post away until something gets done. Everybody in here would do the same thing, and don't for a second let them make you think they wouldn't.

So, we are back to bashing the people having problems....INSTEAD of the people that aren't fixing them. Makes sense. :banghead:

Let's start a new thread

I think we ought to start a separate thread for ice cream.nojoke We're all adults here. If you write something, read it again before you post it. If you mean it, post it. I get nothing out someone trying to be funny by adding something completely irrelevant to the subject at hand.

Posting about problems and asking for information or fixes is great, and we all do it and some of us get the answers we need/want, posting the same complaint and bashing the product in 6 different places and ignoring the suggestions from the knowledgeable folks on here is annoying and folks can complain about that also.

if you are having problems breathing and the doctor tells you to quit smoking and you complain that you shouldn't have to quit because your system should allowing for smoking, you are not looking for a fix, you just want to complain. This is only a reference to a very, very small amount of posters here that want to whine.

This is just my biased opinion and it is not mandatory for others to agree.

I have to agree!

And unless you own a 2013 you have no idea what you are talking about.

and I said I don't own one. However, I also noted that if you look back into the old posts there are MANY similar complaints about the GS, RS and then the RT. When each major model or redesign rolled out there were many problems and BRP only fixed some of those problems. The owners with the help of other members and / or aftermarket products fixed the rest.

Also, the original poster mentioning the 2013 did not limit the thread to 2013 models.

I'm not sure exactly what's going on here so that entitles me to add my two cents.

The heat issue with the 2013's reminds me a lot of the DPS issues with the early spyders.

Many, but not all, experienced problems with the steering locking up. BRP had to recall the DPS, but only because enough people griped about it.

The heat issue seems to be similar. Enough people (and don't foget the YouTube video) have heat issues with the 2013's that clearly something is wrong. Just like the DPS, the first solution was a "band-aid" approach which was unsatisfactory.

I think people should be freee to complain about the issues they are having. Otherwise, how else will everyone know ?

I myself, wouldn't touch a 2013 with an asbestos stick, but I wouldn't know that if it wasn't for this forum.

No one is forcing anyone to read posts they don't like. Just move on to the next post, or the next forum, if that's more to your liking.

[Rant/off]

What gets me is that so many people mention about BRP making it "right" with those 2013 ST owners with problems. It's NOT going to happen....BRP doesn't work that way and never has. We went through this back in 04' with the RXP/RXT superchargers on the skis blowing washers and wiping out the motors. Actually, it's still kind of a problem so BRP just made the supercharger a "wear item". BRP will fix and continue to attempt to fix what is fixable during the warranty period. After that, they are done and you are on your own. If there is a design improvement that can be made, they make that improvement in the following years.
BRP relies very heavily on the consumer and their feedback through the dealer for their R&D.
As much as I love my spyder, it is one of the main reasons I bought a 2012 RS as it's pretty much been around and fairly unchanged since 08'.
I would never, ever, own a first production year of anything BRP or when there have been significant changes.

:agree: I always am getting yelled at for telling her that I'm here to help find solutions; if she just wants to complain, call her girlfiends for that... ;)

lets start a post on all the things people love about their spyder.

There is a thread! Here it is:

http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?58828-Reasons-to-Like-the-2013-RT

I don't have much to add other than verify some of my observations over the last few months. The HEAT issue, from what I've researched is nothing new to the 2013. There are plenty of posts talking about the same issues on the RT all the way back to 2010.

Again, correct me if I'm wrong, but the new problem with the 2013 is the FIRE issue which has been addressed by the recall - whether it be lame or not. Are the two issues getting lumped into one and therefore people think it's all new to the 2013???

Lastly, I have not experienced any of the 2013 issues, but am truly sympathetic for those that have. After dropping $24K on my RT-S, I'd be livid.
