There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Just got back from the dealer Redline Powersports and the tech Martin Yost did a bang up job adding the extra insulation.

BRP called me as I was paying for the 1hr labor to install the insulation and no dice on the rebate for us 2013 owners I requested but we discussed the boiling gas tank issue and told them I was just finishing insulating it and that they should do that for everyone instaed of us doing it for ourselves. I told them all the issues rolled into one could be the reason for fires. Too much pressure from boiling gas into canister could ruin it and they should look into the boiling gas issue. They told me all motorcycles have some gas smell ( BS ) and I told them not as much as we have and some have even reported drops on the floor. We shall see if they do anything in the future.

I also asked about a ball park figure on trade in for '14 they said somewhere around $18k after the current rebates go away. $5k hit in the wallet for 3 months and 1500mi :yikes:

I'm getting the recall work performed this coming Monday. I will ask about the boiling gas and what they (the dealer) can do to alleviate the boiling gas (and gas odor) issue.

recall

was the tank wrapped because BRP told them to do it. i was at my dealer today and they are still waiting for the heat recall items but as far as i know it's just for the master cylinder

The recall wraps the master cylinder cover in tin foil like shield, adds a small metal heat shield in front of the MC, and wraps the charcoal canister in tin foil.

Ballpark $15K for my 2010 RT-S Premier with 35,000 miles. I am feeling better already. Value 52% of original.

:yikes: Guess I will need to shop around if and when the time comes. To the above question I paid for the extra insulation it was worth $118 to me he did a fine job I know it will take some time to realize the full benefit. If you look at the picks he used some insulation from a wrecked Spyder around the gas cap area and front seat edge it is a little thicker because mine was a thin tape applied to the tank. Got a good look at the guts and he found some other things either BRP did not do correctly from the factory or during assembly. Also notice the tie wraps he moved the locations of the originals to a better location IMHO. Over all I am very pleased now onto the hell hole he gave me some ideas to try....

Here is what my Dealer Tech did for the RECALL on my RT-S, photo's included. He had to repair the wiring harness near the MC that melted to bear wires :banghead:

It is BRP's responsibility for the fix and I for one am NOT going to pay for fixes that are Safety issues :gaah:

What insulation did you use on the fuel tank?

Good news..!!

on the effectiveness of the shielding. Seems you got it where it needs to go to bring it down..congrats..!!

Dave, tell me more about that nifty thermometer. I like!

I got it back in my RC Airplane days to help tune the engines. A lean engine runs hotter than a properly adjusted one. Flamingobabe has been talking about hers running lean and hot. I forgot I had it till the other day or I would have been using it before my recall but will be checking with it now.

It is an oldie but a goodie they have more newer ones for the RC crowd now. It only measures up to 430 degrees but good enough for my purposes.

why not wrap pipes too? wonder about long term ....

Wrapping pipes is not good in the long term I know some have done it but it will shorten their life too much heat for too long they need to breathe to stay cooled off. Raising the pipe temp too much can effect the cat too. What we really need is the same thing cars have and that is a metal heat shield above the cat to keep the heat from rising up and make it go out to the rear.
