WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THE RADIO ANTENNAS ON THE SPYDERS...HAS THERE BEEN ANY RECALLS OR DOES ANONE KNOW ABOUT THEM FALLING OFF OF BREAKING OFF.WELL I WAS PUTTING ON MY COVER TODAY ON MY SPYDER AND MY ANTENNA SNAPPED OFF!!!! PLEASE HELP.THANKS CHUCK

Hey Chuck. Heard ya all the way out here in California. You're not the first to snap their antenna off while covering their Spyder, and for sure you won't be the last. It's not a design problem. It's simply something that happens. Bet you don't do it again.

I'd say it was a design problem if it didn't fold down like my GW does when you put the cover on... I wonder if you could use a GW antenna on the spyder?

John

I dunno :dontknow:... Can you mount that folding GoldWing piece onto the BRP antenna base?
John, This sounds like an experiment that you may need to report back to us on! ;)

Snapping the stock antenna is common with spyders and is a design flaw since cheap replacments stand up fine. But look at it this way, why improve the stock antenna when you can charge the customer big bucks to replace it after it breaks. I have been lucky so far but I am sure my day is coming lol.

I can sure look at it, I have everything off of the GW from the top down to the frame :yikes: to install my new CB.

 Just waiting to see the magic that you can perform; installing a little bit of GoldWing DNA into the Spyder! :2thumbs:

Stubby antenna

I changed my antenna to a stubby one. There adaptors that come with the kit work on the Spyder . I got the one that can be extended. I also had to open the hole in the rubber boot just a little. The reception so far is the same.

I agree, I broke my antenna and replaced it with the stubby from Walmart, works and looks fine.

Broken also

My antenna broke after only 3 rides while putting the cover back on. Mighty expensive from dealer. Will go to Wally world if it happens again.

If it broke while putting your cover on, you aren't putting the cover on correctly. Solution to both problems is the shorty antenna from Walmart.

Bob,

The threads on the GW antenna are M8 x 1.25 and the threads on the Spyder look like about M6.

I have replaced one antenna on the 2010 RT. Mine fell off and was replaced under warranty. In the interim, I bought and used the Wal-Mart shorty.

The Wal-Mart shorty worked as good or better than the OEM--but since BRP replaced the OEM (about $50 or so), I went back to the OEM. Had I broken the antenna (no warranty here) I probably would have stuck with the Wal-Mart shorty.
