• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Battery connections

Make sure you ask the dealer to tighten the battery connections when you go for service. I had to get a jump one night to get home and all it was was loose battery connections. Live and learn I guess.

Just make sure that the screws are the wright length. Many times longer ones are used when taking power from the battery. In many cases those add ons are moved or removed but the shorter screws are not changed. You will then feel the screw tighten but the nut will not pull up snug to the post. :lecturef_smilie:

We all should do a pre ride maintenance check for tire pressure and battery cables as well as lights ect just to be on the safe side as these cables tend to vibrate loose thanks for the reminder im a little to lax on on this myself.

Did your bike act like it was trying to start but didn't???

I have mine in the shop. I haven't ridden in weeks but I would go to the garage and start it every week. Last week it wouldn't turn over. Lights worked, it sounded like it was trying to catch but didn't. I tried to jump it with my car (car not turned on of course) and that didn't work.

My dealership (which sucks) said it started for them after tightening something.....I just don't trust my dealership.

Is it the cables on the posts that get loose? Could this happen on a bike that has been parked for a few weeks. Seems odd to me.

Every time you start it and ''don't'' run it at 35 hundred rpms for the equivalent of ten miles or more you can't charge the battery back to the same amount it took to start it.
And yes a battery terminal can loosen slowly and suddenly stop the starting process.
Instead of starting it every now and then put it on a battery tender.

please use a 23 $$ battery tender to keep it charged, wallmart has them, and yes the battery cables vibrate loose you must check them or get straneded some where you wont like.and what he said it takes some riding to charge the batt.after starting that takes a lot of juce.:2thumbs::chat: keep it hooked up to the tender at all times you are not riding.:sour:

napper39 is correct. I have BR1 plugged in 24/7. My question is...is there a "easy or quick" way to get to the battery terminals to tighten them without removing plastic? I have looked but not touched....I do have my dealer tighten them by don't go in that often. Just wondering. Thanks.

Lamont has a video out there about access...sadly I'm on a mobile site and can't link right now. You don't have to remove tupperware, just 2 screws under the seat by the battery cut out. Unplug the passenger heat controls and that cut out panel lifts off.
Updated...moved over to my computer...here's the link

Thanks, friends. I am going to try to check my terminals. I know my Wing terminals work loose every six months. They are easy to get to so I check them every two or three months. I will attempt it on BR1.

I am very bright and smart. I know that you use a cresent wrench to beat on a flat head V8 Ford gererator to get it to work. That is the end of my mechanical knowledge.

Thanks again. :spyder2:

At under a thousand miles my battery terminal loosened, [08 Gs in 08] So i just tighten them up adding star washers,
They haven't loosen for the next 18 thousand + miles.

I admit it, I'm not very smart. I see those screws, but how the heck do I get at the one toward the back? With the seat right there a screwdriver doesn't fit. I thought I read somewhere about taking the seat off, but how do I do that? I just wanna ride my bike! :banghead::gaah:

Warning if you do remove the seat, take some paper towel and plug up the holes at the back of the seat or parts will fall into the black hole never to be found again!!
