• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Oil leak question

Y-me

Hi all,

My dealer resolve an il leak issue for me.
They said the issue on the RS was a water pump bolt that went into the oil gallery and had not been thread sealed at the factory.

They resolved the issue by using something thicker than factory thread sealer.
This has worked, the only oil coming out now is behind the right radiator fan which is blow by from what I understand. :sour:
Now I have to change the oil again myself rather than the engine doing it for me...

I guess my question is that should I be concerned with this?
Will this issue affect the longevity of the motor?

Best,
Y

If it's the Blow-by that your worried about , Make sure your not over filling the engine oil'
Even a little too much oil will cause blow-by.

So far, the dealer has done all of the oil changes.
I get blow by pretty much all of the time despite making sure the oil is not overfilled and near the bottom of the safe zone.

On my 08 GS Sm5, I put a piece of foam [sugar cube size] in the vent tube that goes into the air box, That stopped all blow-by. Also when i changed my oil i only put in ''4'' quarts.
If you run the RPM over 6000 more than 10% of the time without something [foam] to stop blow-by some oil will get in the air box.

Never did the foam solution but may end up doing so.
The airbox is generally clean but I was also considering a KewlMetal intake too.
Depending on the pricing I may just get a new Spyder next year.

If the airbox is clean, your issue isn't blow-by, it is a leak. These can be very deceiving and hard to trace to the source. Your dealer needs to take a closer look.
