• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Plug Wires or Y-Pipe Gaskets

Have a 08 GS SM 5 w/ 4,092 mi breaks up between 2,500 & 4,500 RPM looking for any ideas on if i'm looking in the right direction.

THIS PROBLEM

It's a whole lot easier to check if you have leaky gaskets, so I would start there.....The plug wires and spark plug may be fine, but in checking them you may cause damage ( the wires are fragile ). sooooooo check the gaskets first......Mike.....

i went to change my gaskets a few weeks ago, and found that the right side clamp was loose. changed gaskets, tightened clamps mft, all is good.

If you are going to pull everything to check the wires, save yourself some trouble and get Baja Ron's plug wires. You will probably get them at a later date anyhow.

I will say that my wife's Spyder never ran well at lower rpm's until I installed an O2 modifier (and later Power Commander). New gaskets, plugs, wires, air filter, updates, etc. It didn't matter. And that was with the stock pipe.

Checking plug wires

It is very easy to visually check the plug wires. Just remove the side panels and when it is dark out start up the bike. If the wires are arcing you can see the sparking as it is quite visible.

:agree:

It also helps to let your eyes get adjusted to the dark first. The Spyder coils are pretty hot so arcing is usually pretty easy to spot.

I had a similar problem caused by a loose tube on the throttle body. There is a least one press to fit 1/8 inch (approx) tube that goes into the side of the throttle body with a vacuum hose on it. Mine had worked its way loose AFTER I had changed the plugs. It was easy to find and easy to fix with some stud mount and a soft tap. Might be worth looking at while you are in there any way. Good Luck.

OEM Y gaskets will be blown by 5,000 miles usually anyway.. so you might as well replace them... use the Honda ones and they'll last forever....

Thanks folks for all the input I will let you know what I find out & Firefly I was thyinking the same thing on the gaskets Have had the honda one's in my toolbox for weeks Thanks again folks & I will keep you posted.

:agree: I changed my "Y" pipe gaskets and installed the Honda ones at 6,000 miles, the BRP gaskets were starting to leak. I also changed spark plugs and wires( from BajaRon )and installed a K&N air filter. These are the first three items that should be changed on all Can-am RT & RS models. The "Y" pipe gaskets can damage your drive belt and on the right side they are close to the brake master cyclinder and gas lines. That's IMHO.
