• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Chickened out, bought the JB Pro

Got a good deal on it...and will be on the HMF pipe for about 10 days... I'll keep you updated. I'm sure I'll have questions.
Steve

I bought the HMF pipe and upgraded my gaskets... People were telling me to "try it out" to see if you need the JB. I install the HMF tonight...gaskets done. I didn't want to try just the pipe to see, so I chickened out.. :)

I sure would think about not installing that JB Pro until after I did some serious testing without it.

I have had 2 of these (1st one failed) and I can assure you that your next service visit to a Can-Am dealer after you install the JB will not be the same. Most dealers will view your spyder with suspicion if you have a JB installed, particularly if codes are showing up.

On the other hand, if you do nearly all of your own service, like to constantly tinker with the adjustments on your spyder, dont worry about warranty coverage, and do constant ongoing performance analysis of the spyder this is the right direction for you!

Could you elaborate ? What am I looking for?

They aren't going to think kindly about the HMF muffler either lol. I do all maintenance except BUDS, Tires, and bearings...

I will task them to troubleshoot if I can't locate the issue. It's a 2008 GS/SM5. No warranty...

Thanks
Steve

Try the muffler first... If you are not getting serious backfiring and the performance is steady at most rpm ranges, you may not need a JB. but your best best is to talk to some RS owners that have been there & done that... If you do some Searches on this site you will find a lot of background & experience.

Ok will do. JB Pro is in the mail so I'm committed but it will come in handy with a kewl intake. Test run is tonight... We will see how she runs. :)

Holy smokes... This thing sounds like a freakin monster..hahaha
Some decel popping at 3000k-4000k rpm downshifting. Two minor backfires (I guess..wasn't like a car one) while riding for 1 Hour. Aside from that, acceleration was smooth and consistent. Hard acceleration was sharp and responsive. No slop.

You hear it in your helmet around town. It quiets down above 50.

I like it (I'll still install JB though) just to have in place for future mods and optimization.

You're supposed to shut off the JB before you get your bike worked on...if you don't, then yeah, you're gonna have issues and that COULD void the warranty...just shut the darn thing off when you get there...that's what I do and my dealership is very cool with everything...

You will need the JB. You will need it more with the Kewl Metal intake.

I've had my Spyder worked on several times with my JB hooked up. No issues.

But then I don't have a dealer that is crying "Voided Warranty" for everything from a full moon to riding with holes in my socks!

I guess it just depends.

I know huh? Lol. I wouldnt lean out the system anymore than it already is as a stocker with just the HMF. I think it will be ok as is for ten days until JB is on...

Anything that increases air flow without a corrisponding fuel increase will lean things out. Allowing the exhaust to exit more readily also allows a larger air volume to enter the more efficiently evacuated cylinder.

A restrictive air intake system will reduce the effects somewhat but you still have the condition.

Granted, it's probably not a great deal leaner. But standing at the very edge of the cliff, how much room do you have to mess with. All vehicles today come stock at the edge of the lean cliff. Just about anything will push them beyond where they should be. That is why you are getting decel popping that you've not gotten before.

That is probably the most severely affected point in the cycle, but not necessarily the only point.

Agreed, it probably isn't a short term concern. Your JB should take care of the long term issue.

I agree. And my dealer does'nt have a problem with my JB and I do not turn it off,but then again I am past warranty.

My dealer could care less but then again, I do everything myself. You won't be sorry with the JB Pro. PM me if you have questions about it and we can chat. There are plenty on here with extensive knowledge about how the spyder is set up from the factory. Preferably talk to someone with an AFR gauge installed on the trike. They will have detailed knowledge of how to start the map creation process for the JB. You can always set it to map3 and forget it if you don't mess with the airbox. If you do you will be into tweaking the maps guaranteed!Remember the Spyder's are wayyyyy lean from the start. AFR at around 14.7. JB's target afr is around 13.6 verified on the AFR gauge with the JB set to map 3 w/no mods to the airbox/filter. I keep my cruise afr in the 13-13.6 range. Get on her and it's running in the 11.9-12.5 range. App' 34-36 mpg cruising. I also have a green filter in the air box with a ram air feed to the inlet.
