Rear wheell axle on fire.

Leaving Clearwater and suddenly the Spyder brakes hard by herself (!) and heavy black smoke is coming from the right side of the back wheel axle (!).
Called 911 dispatched police and fire track.

Aren't the bearings grease self contained? no way you can grease them.

18k on rear bearings???? Are you nuts? Those rear bearings can barely last that long under NORMAL conditions bro.

My manual says to inspect them at 12,000 miles. Nothing about replacing them, or greasing them... I suppose that happens only if they are failing?

My manual says to inspect them at 12,000 miles. Nothing about replacing them, or greasing them... I suppose that happens only if they are failing?

They are now a 14,000 mile replacement item, per the new 9300 and 14,000 mile mx inspection schedules. Mine have 18,000 and will be replaced Tuesday. The dealer didn't have them in stock.

I have 28k on my '08 GS with the original bearings. I guess it's time for me to change them! Luckily, I bought them a few months ago just in case. I had them with me when I rode to SpyderFest, just in case. Everything "seems" to be fine, but I think I'll be changing them soon.

Mine were checked when I had new tires installed at 17,250 and was told they looked alright. Looks like I got a set of those really good ones not made on a Friday.

Or the ones made in China...:yikes:
