• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Rear wheell axle on fire.

Doru the Destroyer-Spyder Photo Investigator
Leaving Clearwater and suddenly the Spyder brakes hard by herself (!) and heavy black smoke is coming from the right side of the back wheel axle (!).
Called 911 dispatched police and fire track.

:yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes: Did they get the fire out before things got any more serious??

Spyder back in the garage; discoloration of the edge of the hub= bad bearings :dontknow:

Additional HP, additional load on all related components including the rear bearings. Let us know what the final decision on this is.

Parts on order bearings and hub; looking back for the last bearing change: 18K miles ago, before the Spyder Triangle.

Aren't the bearings grease self contained? no way you can grease them.

18k on rear bearings???? Are you nuts? Those rear bearings can barely last that long under NORMAL conditions bro.

That wasn't smoke--- it was a cry for help from all the abuse they have taken.

Rear seals and bearings

My manual says to inspect them at 12,000 miles. Nothing about replacing them, or greasing them... I suppose that happens only if they are failing?

They are now a 14,000 mile replacement item, per the new 9300 and 14,000 mile mx inspection schedules. Mine have 18,000 and will be replaced Tuesday. The dealer didn't have them in stock.

:yikes:

I have 28k on my '08 GS with the original bearings. I guess it's time for me to change them! Luckily, I bought them a few months ago just in case. I had them with me when I rode to SpyderFest, just in case. Everything "seems" to be fine, but I think I'll be changing them soon.

I'll put that on my schedule... Thanks!

Mine were checked when I had new tires installed at 17,250 and was told they looked alright. Looks like I got a set of those really good ones not made on a Friday.

Or the ones made in China...:yikes:
