• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Looks like they had it right to start with

Fred Rau posted this pic on facebook of the clay RT and trailer. Notice they had stock front wheels on the trailer. Wish they would have kept it that way so you could carry one spare that would work with the front of the RT and the trailer.

:agree: Makes good sense with one spare for both Spyder and trailer.

My suspicion is that the trailer got caught up in the regulations, and the three lug wheel was not legal under the current regulatory structure. It might be possible to get the weight rating and "axle" certified, but it would take time and $$$ at very least. This is the easiest way out in that case. Also remember that the Spyder tires are taller, on 14" wheels, so the trailer would sit higher...and the added unsprung weight from the taller wheels and wider tires would affect the suspension needs and the handling. The RT-622 is pretty darned perfect in that department, so I am not sure of a good reason to mess with it. Not sure of the wisdom of carrying a spare for the front of the Spyder when the rear isn't the same, either. JMHO

I would think if they could get away with a swingarm mounted hitch on the Spyder a three lug hub would be no big deal. There are plenty of trailers that ride higher than the RT trailer too so I don't see that being an issue. I guess the point of carrying a spare for the front and trailer would be four of the five wheels you're using could be used as a spare if needed.

Perhaps stability concerns overcame "ease of use" issues... :dontknow:

Larger wheels handle better. My Bushtec had large wheels on it and it handled great. My guess is cost, the trailer still has the same size cutout for the larger wheel but my guess is going with the smaller wheel and tire cut the cost quite a bit..

This might be splitting hairs given the difference in wheel sizes, but wouldn't larger wheels raise the COG and make the trailer more likely to tip over?

If it was a straight axle maybe but with a trailing arm setup it would have little effect and could be adjusted to sit lower.

Since BRP decided to use a six spoke wheel on the RT they could have used a six lug wheel for the 622 on the same bolt circle and it would have fit the Spyder as well. Some of aftermarket wheels have multiple holes for different bolt patterns.
Just a thought. :D

These would be great questions to ask BRP in Durango and hear it from the engineers as to there reasoning. and why the trailer doesn't come with chrome wheels;)

:dontknow: My trailer came with smoked chrome wheels???

yes, mine have smoked chrome for the trailer that initially matched but I now have on my RTS chrome front wheels that replaced my damaged ( from accident ) smoked chrome. I could of gotten the smoked but after seeing these :ohyea: it's ok that i don't match!

I kept looking at this photo going what's missing? then it dawned on me that the front wheels look so much larger without a fender over it. :D

I would have thought from a production standpoint it would be cheaper to use an existing wheel---- literally why reinvent the wheel--- lol

Would make sense for a spare too. If I was to carry a spare for the Spyder it would be a front. 66.7% chance of front blowout vs 33.3% rear.

I do carry a spare for the trailer.

Always cool to see the clay models.
