We're thinking about buying a trailer to haul my Spyder AND our HD Ultra, together. :ohyea: We have an enclosed 7x14 and yesterday and we tried fitting them both in but no go. We don't want to pack them in like sardines and chance damaging either bike. I really would like to keep the trailer we have for when we want to take just the HD or Spyder alone. Besides, we haven't had this one for to long so I don't want to lose my butt on selling it. What we were thinking of getting is a open flatbed trailer, or a lawnscaping trailer I guess they're called. The one we're looking at it 16x6.5 but we're not sure if that would be wide enough. :dontknow: If anyone has any ideas that would be great!! Pictures would be even better! :D

I saw your ad in another section but I did not want to bring it up in that thread so I'm going to post it here.

Must be the company that sells yours measures them differently than the others. The one you have is a 7x12 from most companys. This would explain why you could not fit the Spyder and the HD full dresser in it. Below is a photo of both of our 7x14 trailers and you will be able to see the big difference in size. :dontknow:

Sweet trailer anyways no matter what size it is. Love the rims, paint style and is a great deal to someone looking to haul the Spyder and lots and lots of gear.

Randy, you have hit on one of the great remaining scams of our time. There are no standards regarding trailer measurements. Some measure the entire length, including the hitch, and some measure just the box. V-nosed trailers may be measured either with or without the V-nose portion. Widths may be the door width, box width, or width between the tires. To add insult to injury, the measurements may be "nominal", so they are rounded off to the nearest foot...often upward. It pays to get the box dimensions in inches, to avoid confusion. :agree: That one would be called a 7x12 (or 6.5x12) by most manufacturers.

To find out if your bikes will fit on a certain trailer size, do this:
Measure the interior dimensions of the trailer (W x L) that you are interested in and then take some masking tape or snap a chalk line on your driveway that are the same dimensions and then just drive or roll your rides into place. With a little experimentation you'll know if there's a way that will work and you won't be moving around on awkward trailers tying to guess at it.
Good luck!

I knew that something was wrong when she said both bikes would not fit. This explains everything. I bet hers is measured from the tounge by the looks of it.

It would be real tricky to try to get a Spyder RT and a Harley dresser into even a 7x14 box with a three foot V-nose. The wide rear of the Spyder and the width of the Harley would make things really tight, even if you could jockey the Spyder rear end off to one side. I can get Nancy's Spyder (without bags) and a one standard or two small bikes, in my trailer (7x12 with 3' V-nose), but I have to sit even a small bike sideways with the RT, and I can't even manage to get my BMW RT in with Nancy's Spyder...too narrow for a faired bike. That trailer will load four conventional bikes. One of the problems is having enough width to tie the bike in the rear down adequately. The tie-downs won't go out at a sufficient angle. An 8 foot wide trailer or a 7x16 might work, but it is definitely more difficult with an RT.

I hear ya and agree! Hubby went out the other day and measured the box and that's what he got...12....almost 14 with the nose. It was sold to us as 7x14....ticks me off. :sour: If we went with another closed trailer, which I'm not to sure hubby would agree to, I'm not sure if he'd want even the "true" 14ft. I know he made a comment about not having to cram them in together. Decisions, decisions, decisions.....:banghead:

Great idea, thanks!! :2thumbs: I'll tell hubby!

It was measured from the nose.

And tight is not what we want. And yes, even with a 16', we, rather hubby :D, can pick up the rear of my Spyder and move it but, like I said, neither of us are getting any younger and we don't want to have to do that all the time, so..........bigger trailer. We have had our HD and a smaller bike in it a couple times with no problems. The Spyder is another story most definately.

Good luck to you and I hope you will be able to figure out what will work for you. Please keep us posted in what you decide to get so we know what will work and what won't.

I picked up one of the Alumna TK-1 trailers today. I found it less expensive in Macon, GA than N.GA. That would be less in sales tax too.
After they hooked it up, I asked them where were the safety chains were? The guy took a pix of the hitch to send to his distributor. Oooops! So they put on a set. They also had to add an adaptor for lights connector. I have the round plug-in.

There was a woman there purchasing a spare tire for her two year old trailer. I thought good idea. So I asked what would cost with a steel wheel. He said since I was buying a trailer he sell me one for $50. I said OK. On the way to the trailer the sales man went and fetched a tubing chock thing. I told him that wouldn't work with a Spyder. So he said he would give me the spare tire instead. WooHoo!

NowDSC_9069s.jpgDSC_9070s.jpg all I need is a set of ponies for my "Chariot". :roflblack:

The ramp is located under the trailer bed. Release two pins, slide it out and hook it on the rear lip of the bed. Neat Huh?
Up in the nose, there is a storage box. I'll add some sort of self contained light in there. I thought I'd put the spare tire at the backside of the box.
