Dragon tail

Watched hell roads, I'm smart enough to know that the tail of the dragon is way too dangerous for me to try:yikes::yikes::yikes: Looks like it could be fun but until I get to become god and can keep everyone else off the thing when I'm on it, I'll pass for everyone's safety.

I ride that road 4 to 5 times a month in good weather and 1 or 2 times when it gets cold. It can be a handful but I respect the road and trust everyone is going to do something stupid. nojoke

It was a good segment on the Dragon. We've ridden the Dragon (two up) on a couple of trips to the area...my husband is a super safe rider and it was quite the ride. You gotta watch out for everyone else on there not just you, but very worth the risks.

I first rode the Dragon in 1987 on two wheels, have ridden it many times over the years. It doesn't do much for me anymore...I can think of many better roads. It was fun back in the day.

I have made two roads on the show: the Tail and Us550 (Red Mountain Pass) in CO. Respect the danger of the road and stop to look at the scenary. All going to the Spyder Owners Event in Durango will have easy access to US550.

Some Roads

Yes, the Dragon is indeed a hoot, but now having done it a few times, there are other roads nearby with a lot less traffic than can be equally challenging. Not to take anything away from skilled riders but we found the Tail of the Dragon to be an interesting, curvy road with a great press agent.

Have done it three times now. Plan on doing it on the way home from Spyderfest and then up the Blueridge Parkway. A little longer way home back to Maine. :thumbup:

The Dragon is totally safe, it is the rider who over drives his/her skills are the ones who make the Dragon dangerous...Like Lamonster I ride the Dragon on a regular basis, as long as you respect the road and drive within your skills the road is a BLAST!!

The first time Betty Boop was out on her RT-S we either had to ride 3 hours back through N.C. or ride about a hour via the Dragon. She rode the Dragon and handled it like a champ...She just rode within her skill set....Come on down and ryde it you won't regret it!!

The tail of the dragon is a blast! If you are in the area I really recommend doing it.
It's only 11 miles but has 318 curves. It is as safe as you make it.

I've ridden it several times with wife (two wheels and three). I personally prefer "the sweepers". I can see much more scenery that way.

Based on the 10 minutes or so that was given on the Dragons's Tail--I think I will avoid that one. It was scarry to see all the semi's and people who seemed to be riding beyond their abilities. I am surprised they have not banned semi's from that road.

I would have no problerm riding the road--but it's the unknown from the "other" drivers that scare me on that one.

My area has at least 5 roads that are similar, with steep inclines, lots of curves, 10 miles long or so, and beautiful scenery that I can drive on when I get the urge. The good thing is that they are not as busy, and you do not feel like you are taking your life into your hands every time you drive them. I have posted lots of pictures from these types of roads.

To each their own--if you drive the Dragon, be safe.
