Vermont Roads

I am heading out through Canada to Vermont, New Hampshire, and probably a little bit of Maine & Mass. Hwy 108 looks like a nice road from Canada to Stowe VT.
My two fold question is: Anyone familiar with the road? It looks great on the map. Secondly, has the recent flooding affected that route in particular? We are kind of assuming that the roads and or bridges that might have been damaged will be adequately signed so we can detour around them. We are leaving on Tuesday so expect to be around VT on Wednesday (Sept 28)

To bad your not getting into Stow untill Wednesday we could have hooked up. We are heading up from Connecticut Sunday and leaving Wednesday. I googled VT road closures and got their map which gives info on road and bridge closure,. Sugguest you do the same. Rt 108 looks ok though.

They have redone much of that road, but there may still be a rough stretch between Bakersfield and Jeffersonville, just take it slower. Otherwise it should be a nice ride.
Enjoy! :doorag:

Hurricane Irene hit Southern VT hard but Northern VT fared much better. You may come across a minor detour or two but you should have no problems. I live about 20 miles from where Rt 108 runs through Smugglers Notch in Stowe. That's a fantastic ride, you'll love it. Bring your camera, you'll want to take photos. The scenery through the mountains is incredible. If you have time consider taking the mountain toll road to the top of Mt. Mansfield. That's in Stowe.

Enjoy!

AWESOME! I am not sure exactly when i will be at Stowe, probably Wednesday or Thursday sometime. I have your number and directions (I'd be giving you a call before popping by (if we can) there are two of us. One Spyder (ME) and one Kawasaki Concours (a riding budy) Are you sround during the daytime?

We've ridden in VT twice and it's simply a beautiful state with great roads and, for the most part, very little traffic. Oh, they also have Ben & Jerry's! Enjoy your visit.

Thanks for the reminder Dan. We were planning on Ben & Jerry's, but I forgot to add it to the route. Hoep it will be warm enough for Ice Cream :)

The weather is supposed to be great for the next two days, sunny and warm.

You'll find Ben and Jerrys Factory Store in Waterbury, VT. Great tour and free samples!

Star Cruiser, I was just out on route 108 after work yesterday. It was a little rough just outside of Jeffersonville heading to Bakersfield, but otherwise the road is not bad outside of that. I don't live far from the area you will be riding in. The ride going through rte 108 into Stowe is a nice scenic ride. Irene did some destruction in Waterbury, but the roads are still ok. Ben & Jerrys as well as the Cold Hollow Cider Mill in Waterbury are both nice places to visit while in that town. You will love Vermont for it's scenic backdrops. I hope you and your buddy have a safe and enjoyable tour!

Mike, Thanks for the very generous offer to stay with you. We were early in the day when we got near Smugglers Notch. So went to BEn & GErry's (AWESOME tour and great Ice Cream !) Ended up in NH in the afternoon so stayed there. Missed most of the rain (Got it back today in ME & MA - LOL) Starting on the way back tomorrow. Checking out Bethel en-route. THe roads are fantastic around New England. I'll definitely be back for a visit and will make your offer a DESTINATION. Thanks again!
