• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Fluctuating Fuel Gauge

I have almost 3000 miles on my RT-S and so far haven't had one problem with it. Today cranked it up for my usual 8 mile ride to work and noticed that my fuel gauge was fluctuating from full to 1/2 tank. It started as soon as I cranked it up and lasted all the way to work. Did the same thing on the trip home. If I crank it up and let it idle it doesn't move very much, but as soon as you take off becomes very erratic. Just wondering if any of you have had the same problem????
 
I believe there is a known problem with the fuel gage. Had the flux problem on my 2011 RT and they replaced the Gage under warranty. Problem solved. :thumbup:
 
Mine gave up last Thursday. My feeling is that it is a failure of an electronic component within the gauge, that damps the gauge. A replacement gauge should cure it, but some owners have had a series of replacements fail, too.
 
After having the original and two replacements fail I have given up on the analog gauges. I disconnected them and am very happy with the digital ones. I do plan to have the guage replaced again so that the factory will be aware that these fail too often but then I will most likely disconnect it.

There are several threads about this with step by step for disconnecting the analogs.

I am also thinking of disconnecting mine and using the digital. To fill the hole, I am considering trying to find an electronic compass that is easy to read. Sometimes I like to make trips just by general direction rather than by GPS. Find some interesting roads that way sometimes.

I wanted to change over to the digital guages and replace the others with something else. My dealer will not work with me on that issue and so I have no one to wire up new guages. I do not trust a non-dealer to do that work--since the Spyder can get screwed up real easy. I am severly mechanically challenged--so its out of the picture for me to do it.

I have just learned to live with it--and use my tripmeter to tell me when its time to look for a gas station--the low fuel light usually comes on between 130 and 140 miles--and takes 4.5 to 4.8 gallons for a fill at that time.

This is the one mechanical issue that I have complained about. I would think that on a $30K machine--the gas gauge should work. BRP does have a problem with this issue.

I disconnected mine all by myself no help at all and it took a few minutes. For now I don't have anything else in their place. I'm very happy with the digital gauges.
 
Also disconnected my Fuel gauge which had been replaced last month - Was supposed to be a 2011 Fuel gauge OK at first but on my first fill up
the bouncing gauge returned

Have now connected up a Digital Voltmeter and Digital clock to replace the Fuel and Temp gauge
Like the cluster display better - easy to read and at night shows up well with the cluster colour change

Did not find it difficult to make the change due to excellent guidance and advice on this website

Sounds like maybe it will be an easy fix. I'll be taking it in for my 3000 mile check up next weekend. Hopefully if they replace it I wont have any other problems with it. If I do I'll probably disconnect it and replace it with an oil pressure gauge and a voltage gauge on the other side. I really do appreciate all the help.....

I will.

My search so far has only turned up digital compass options in the 200-300 dollar range. Yikes! I want one that is 12v. I can find the old bubble type or AAA battery powered everywhere, but I haven't found an affordable 12v model yet.

My gas gauge does bounce a tiny bit but not really a problem for me. If I rYde 120 miles, I am ready to stop and stretch anyway. And that means I rarely run too low on fuel.

But I do like the compass idea though and I'll keep searching!
