There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To much oil

Took my Spyder to the shop last week, couldn't make an appointment, was told to drop it off and they would work it in. Not really a problem, took it in Tuesday, heard nothing so called Thursday afternoon, was told the would get on it this evening. Friday morning they called and said my rear tire was showing wear, whatever, and I told them to replace it, 4 hours labor, oh well.

I have an RT-s and the seat is pulling away form the padding, I'd seen it reported here and remember BRP taking care of it, so I asked the service writer to look at it, the first thing out of his mouth was will they say it was caused by the sun. I told him I knew it was a reported problem and there should be something on it, well another guy finally got a camera, took a couple of pictures and said I'll call BRPP and let you know. We'll see.

Rode it home Friday, about 30 miles. Went on a ryde Saturday, over 100 miles, then rode it again today, total about 210 miles. Checked the oil and it is way over full when hot, close to right on when cold. Looks to me like someone filled it when it was cold. I don't like it.

Also, one of the gromets holding the oil check panel came up missing. I can't put my finger on when but I never found it in the garage so I assume, and I know what that does, it got lost the last time the oil was changed. They wrote it up to be replacded, said BRP knew it was a problem. Guess what? No grommet. I have lost considerable confidence in this service dept. I usually drive by it to get to the dealer that sold me the RT but it was just to big a PITA this time. Man am I sorryl.

Bottom line, how worried should I be about the excess oil? The cover ain't fallen off in over 3000 miles so it should be good to go, it's just the idea.

Get a turkey baster and take some oil out, I'll bet it's only going to take removing 3 to 4 oz to get it right on the mark:thumbup:

Don, I don't know if its a prob with these machines or not; it can be on a lot of other bikes. Mine was overfull when I got it home from the dealer who had just assembled it out of the crate. They told me later they'd heard of others being overfilled from the factory as they are shipped with oil in them. Anyway, I took a rubber bulb thing....I think they were made for filling batteries with water; and are still avail from auto stores....put a short piece of vinyl tubing you can get at Lowes on end and syphoned some out. You can also use your wifes baster with a piece of hose. ;)

Yeah, like that would happen! I can just hear it now:lecturef_smilie::cus::gaah:

My wife don't own no baster. I screwed up and cooked a turkey on my Weber grill the first Thanksgiving we were married, I've been stuck with that chore ever since..... all holidays where turkey is traditional, and some that ain't....

I've sucked some out, hopefully nothing got screwed up.

Thanks for your input

I just changed my oil yesterday. After I dumped in 4 full quarts, started it and let it run, then checked it again, it needed a full 1/3 quart more to bring it up to snuff. When I looked inside the tank, there seemed to be plenty of extra room for oil, in case of overfilling. (RTSE)

I had a 98 Honda ST1100. It had the engine oil right in the case..no oil tank like on the Spyder (wet sump pump?) Now THAT motorcycle would sputter a bit if I put too much oil in it. In fact, it was suggested to slightly underfill it by a bit to ensure non sputtering.

But, being the Spyders oil is in a separate tank, IMO, a bit too much oil aint gonna hurt 'nutin'..

Possibly someone with more knowledge than I could chime in..:)

Most of the overage will most likely end up in the air box, But if the pressure is too high in the crankcase it might find other places to leak out.
[seals or gaskets]

It always grieves me to hear about service departments and technicians like this. I hope you have other options. I would not visit this dealer again on a bet. I would remove the extra oil. A suction gun can be purchsed at the auto parts store for under $10. The SM takes 4.1 US quarts of oil, and the SE 4.3 US quarts. Many owners and dealers overfill.

I took it back to the dealer and the mechanic confirmed that it was to full apologized as did the service manager and took it back and sucked it down to where it should be. Seemed like a nice enough young man, the dealers dedicated Can-Am mechanic. The only thing that concerned me is that he rides a sport bike, not a spyder.

I've got another issue that the're working on, we'll see how they handle that. They are so damn close compared to the next nearest dealers, 30 miles compared to 70-75!

I'm going to learn to change my own oil.... save a few bucks and know that it's done right.

the above excerpted from SpyderDon's opening

BRP replaced my seat under warranty because the cover pulled away from the padding. They even had the Premier Edition embroidery redone. When the new seat arrived at the dealer we just swapped it for the old one.

Down here in florida a lot of folks travel as much as 100 miles to get a top notch servicing dealer.. this isn't just about oil changes .. its about total care... when you need something really important done , a sloppy tech can wreck your Spyder...

Got a call yesterday from the dealer reporting that my seat would be replaced. Yeah. Now I need to get my Utopia backrest ordered.
