• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder gets hot quick, maybe too quick

I'm new to the spyder world so maybe this is normal. My 2011 RS SE5 (285 total miles) seems to get hot pretty quick. After about 10 minutes of just cruising around my small town I'm already up to 5 bars with the fan running and the heat going to my right leg is uncomfortable. Out of town seems fine. It goes between 4 and 5 bars. I'm hoping it's just because with nearly 1K cc's in town riding isn't the best for it. Go easy on me and let me know what you think. :dontknow::spyder2:

Sounds normal, Spyders don't really like slow moving traffic, they get hot fairly quick and are slow to shed heat. They fully rely on a radiator for cooling, they need airflow. They like the open road, but will function in the inner city.

:welcome: you might want to check out Spyderpops for heat shields they will help deflect the heat off your right foot/leg. They are a site sponsor and I believe there is a link on the spyderlovers home page.

For what it's worth, it has been posted several times that the bars/temperature scale is as follows:

1 bar = 153 degrees
2 bars = 171 degrees
3 bars = 183 degrees
4 bars = 207 degrees
5 bars = 223 degrees
6 bars = 230 degrees
7 bars - 237 degrees

These are not unsual for water cooled engines. 4 - 5 bars around town is normal. Sometimes, it's a case of too much information. Most of us rode for years on air cooled rides with no idea what the engine temp was and even most water cooled bikes did not give you specific temp readings. If the fan comes on at five bars, it's working and overheating will not be a problem. Regarding heat on the right foot, check out the SpyderPops products on this site that deal with that issue.

I have them and they work; but, in slow moving traffic, you will still feel the heat.

What temp is 8 bars?
