• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Broke my belt today

I was doing about 25 MPH through the city about 10 miles from home and had enough momentum to coast into a parking lot. After calling my wife to come get me, I called BEST for towing service. I knew without drive capability, I'd never get it into my trailer. A flatbed arrived two hours later to bring it back to my house.

Not sure why it broke, but I suspect it was related to my rear tire replacement about a week ago. I used the Lamont method to drop the rear tire and everything looked good after my test ride. Next time I'll double-check belt alignment and tension after a day or two in case there's any movement.

Oh, well. I guess I can take the opportunity to swap out the original bearings when I put the new belt on.

Yikes...I'll stick with my dealership when it comes to anything with the rear wheel...glad you are safe...

Dang. Sorry to hear you will be hit with a repair bill for this one. Best of luck getting it running again very soon.

Bummer!

I agree it doesn't look worn to me-- mine looks worse.

So the question is---- are you going to replace just the belt-- or the front sprocket and rear hub too?

Service manual says to replace all 3 at the same time.....

Did you pinch or twist the belt while you were trying to drop/install the wheel assembly? With the new one, take care not to fold it too flat or twist it too tightly.......inner strands can be damaged without showing signs on the surface.....:doorag:

Yes, That clean of a break looks like belt was pinched or weakened at that point, A belt just breaking from tension would have a more ragged break...

Ouch--glad no one was injured. Try to find the cause and let us know. Last belt we replaced was almost $300. A rock got that one.

Belt tension

I have a 09 that was bought about a month ago, dealer left over I have about a 100 miles on the clock and am getting weird low speed moans and groans.I got a Krikit checked today three times with wheel on the ground it shows 240 lbs tension plus belt is rubbing flange, so much for dealer prep

Dealer uses a sonic tool to set tension--- but I've been running around 180(+-) reading with the Krickett-- with the bike jacked off the ground-- which is how you should check it--- not sure what it is on the ground-- but I'll check it and let you know....

:agree:I set mine at 180 and checked my wifes machine which was set at the dealer. It's the same.

A sonic tool??? Do they twang it like a guitar string and tune it 'til they're happy with the pitch??
Spyder in e Flat? :roflblack:
