How often should I apply grease to the drive belt?

Last week, Martin posted a video about removing squeaking from your drive belt while improving its health.

How often should one do this? I did it yesterday for the first time - I notice the grease smells like sewing machine oil my mother used to have.

I would not apply it any more often than necessary to remove the squeak. I would also verify that the squeak is coming from the belt teeth and no from rubbing against a sprocket flange.

You’ll probably remember this now. It was intended to only be done when needed, not a routine maintenance item. Sometimes the squeak is not always limited to acceleration, or to only 2008 - 2012 years.

Hibernation time is when all the snowbirds move back to Florida and tie their things down because of hurricanes! :yikes:

I would never put grease on my belt. It does not fix anything, only hides it for a while.
It's like belt dressing it will stop the squeak/whine for a while then it will come back.

Putting any petroleum product on rubber will degrade the rubber to some extent over time.

When I was in fleet management, I witnessed many trucks that had bad wheel seals and had leaked grease and/or lube onto the side of a tire.
It literally looked like someone had taken a grinder to the side of the tire if left on there.

Of course this is "my" opinion. You may do as you wish with your equipment. :cheers:
