B.E.S.T. Plus question?

As for maintenance , I do not know that that means either, but the 600 mile check is laid out pretty clear in the manual under the maintenance section. I do not have the BEST stuff as my dealer offered a maintenance and extended warrany program to me. I do not pay for anything for 3 years, oil and what ever.

Yup the "check" is laid out pretty plainly in the manual but some that have Best Plus are paying for filter and oil after dealer does free "check" or "inspection" some are not. Some are paying differance between BRP allowed rates and dealer actual hourly rates, some are not.
IT'S AS PLAIN AS MUD ! That's no way to run a railroad.

If BRP is serious about making the Spyder a resounding success they need to listen to consumers. Maybe they could send a poll out to current owners and ask them what they would do to improve their buying and ownership experience after six months of ownership/riding. Things like this could be addressed as well as other issues that need to be addressed and corrected.

:agree:
I do not know what survey our American :spyder: friends get when they purchase and take delivery of their new:spyder:'s but 3 weeks after delivery I got a JD Power buying experience survey that I completed on line I had to use a pin # which came by snail mail and that let me complete the survey and I was told that the info would be shared with BRP and the dealership which I dealt with. The survey also said that JD Power was conducting the survey on behalf of BRP. So I hope that BRP is listening to its customers , and in fairness to BRP I believe that they are it just takes them time to make sure that they are making the correct decisions to cure the problems. I also believe that if BRP did not listen to their customers they would not be in business as people usually work hard to play hard like I do. :D

To BEST or not to BEST

I've read this thread, and many maintenance threads over the past week. We are new owners and will be relying on our dealer, Triangle Cycles, in Durham, NC for our maintenance needs. At purchase, I said no to the BEST coverage (we are Gold Wing owners with 60K trouble-free miles). But now I'm terrified at all the breakdowns, maintenance issues I've been reading.

We have a 2011 RTS SE5. We put 600 miles on in a week then took it to dealer for service. We complained about the suspension and sway. They found a rear suspension issue that they'll talk to BRP about tomorrow.

My question: For non-mechanical people like us, do you recommend we buy the BEST or another program if there is one. I like the idea of getting service if we are traveling. Maybe all programs offer this.

I bought the BEST PLUS warranty from BRP so that I am only dealing with one company when it comes time for unexpected repairs whether we are travelling or not . I don't like the idea of getting reapirs done by a dealer then having to fight a warranty company to cover my repairs.
I also have CAA Plus or for our American friends AAA PLus . I found out that CAA Plus will cover to have the :f_spider: put on a flat bed tow truck and taken to the nearest dealer for repairs regardless of the distance. I also get the same service even if I am travelling in the USA . Just something to keep in mind

:dontknow:
I consider myself mechanical, So i Never bought an extended warranty for any vehicle.
That said if i ever get another Spyder?? i would get the best warranty.

I purchased my RT-S SE5 from a small, well thought of, husband wife owner dealer. He oversees the small maintenance and parts shop and she runs sales and paperwork.

She said buy the BEST but not the BEST plus. It is not worth what you get. She showed me the figures on paper. She said and now, at no charge you belong to the "South Texas Spyder Club" and you will get a 15% discount on all parts and labor, including your 600, 3,000 etc mile checks. (My 600 was $220 minus 15% plus sales tax on the parts (not labor) for a total of $190). I paid $800 for my three year BEST extension (total of five years) of warranty.

As I live 50 miles from the dealer, I will take it in and wait for service if possible. As they are in a small south Texas town, they said if service runs over lunch hour, take a Spyder demo down to the cafe in town, eat, ride over to Big Foot, TX and visit with the town folks a while (all nine of them) and come on back when your Spyder is ready.

They are happy. I am happy.

My take on the Spyder 600 or whatever...generally a dealer won't let you watch them do their "thing" due to "insurance restrictions" so you are at the dealer's mercy as to what they actually do! JMHO

For Leslee: I also have a '02 Gold Wing Motor Trike with 60K plus miles. Never put a wrench on it other than oil, filters and checking the valves...which adjustments was not needed, but I bought the BEST warranty....

:spyder2:

My dealer did not offer any BRP branded warranty or maintenance program. They only offer their own extended warranty and it is very expensive and does not cover any scheduled maintenance or normal wear items.

but if you had got the PLUS warranty BEST PLUS for the 3 years it would cover the 600 mile initial inspection ($190 you paid) plus 3 annual services. which would in my guess all combined would pay for the adder to get PLUS.

hey big red as a side question why do you always post in BOLD?

OK.. now lets see if a question can or will be answered.

What does the Best / Best Plus cover in terms of Maint.

List of items or where one could get the list..

Thanks.

BEST OR BUST

So I think I would like the best plus Warrenty extension. It seems however that I near impossible to pin down what is covered, what is paid for, what it costs and why it is impossible to find information about it on the web site.

Please help

I love my RT but am afraid it could bankrupt me after the 2 years are up.

...the reason i like the BEST warranty is I have no issues going to any Can AM dealer when I am on the road if I break down...
I had an issue with a brand new BRP product with a four year BEST warranty that my local "platinum" BRP dealership refused to fix because I didn't buy it from him. Even BRP couldn't change his mind. Apparently BRP dealers can make their own rules.

For those of you that purchased the B.E.S.T. Plus protection, did it pay the full price of the 600 mile service? I walked away from the service on Saturday with a zero payment but today the dealership called and said I owe them for the oil and oil filters. The B.E.S.T. Plus only includes the labor for the checklist items. Can anyone else comment on this?

Great question. Did a little investigating. From what I read - the B.E.S.T. program is an extension of your original limited warrranty.

From BRP's limited warranty - owners manual:

3. EXCLUSIONS—ARE NOT WARRANTED
The following are not warranted under any circumstances:– Replacement of routine maintenance items such as, without limitation, oil, lubricants,
fluids, filters and spark plugs.

7. WHAT BRP WILL DO
BRP’s obligations under this warranty are limited to, *at its sole discretion*, repairingparts found defective under normal use, maintenance and service, or replacingsuch parts with new genuine Spyder parts without charge for parts and labor,at any authorized Spyder Dealer during the warranty coverage period. BRP'sresponsibility is limited to making the required repairs or replacements of parts. No claim of breach of warranty shall be cause for cancellation or rescission of thesale of the Spyder roadster to the owner. In the event that service is required outside of the country of original sale, theowner will bear responsibility for any additional charges due to local practicesand conditions, such as, but not limited to, freight, insurance, taxes, license fees, import duties, and any and all other financial charges, including those levied bygovernments, states, territories and their respective agencies.BRP reserves the right to improve or modify products fromtimeto timewithout assuming
any obligation tomodify any productsmanufactured.

From BEST pamplet:

What’s the difference between B.E.S.T. andB.E.S.T. Plus?
While B.E.S.T. offers an extension of BRP’slimited warranty, B.E.S.T. Plus goes that extramile with a *600 mile inspection (Can-Am™ roadsters)and *annual maintenance for the entire B.E.S.T.
protection period.

Note: accessories, normal wear and maintenance items such as tires,
batteries, bulbs, filters and lubricants are not covered.

Based on your post my dealer and I will need to discuss their understanding and intent when it comes to the BEST warranty.

BEST Sales Brochure

From BRP's website. Be cautious with what you read. The site implies that B.E.S.T. is available in Florida. But CanAm dealers here say it is not. The two I deal with offer either Pinnacle or Zurich extended warranties. Moreover, the on-line brochure is dated 2008....

I have other printed information which says that BEST pays the dealer $125 for the 600-mile service. It also talks about $175 for "annual inspections," but I believe that applies to ATVs since there is no annual maintenance requirement for Spyders.

Sure be helpful to see this info. I'm trying to get the best (no pun intended) understanding of what is actually covered and what is not. I've read what you refer to as the 2008 version of the B.E.S.T. brochure and to say it's vague is an understatement (unless you're a New York lawyer  ).

Have looked all over the net for more info and have not found anything.

So B.E.S.T. Plus picks up maintenance...
Purchased through any Dealer, or are you locked in to a specific shop once the ink dries? :dontknow:

Bob, download this pdf http://en-us.spyder.brp.com/Files/en-US/Pdf/BEST_Protection.pdf it's only two pages. It's the BEST warranty brochure.

What i gather from Reading and rereading it is that it's a PARTS warranty and there is NO MENTION that LABOR is covered. Now that does not mean they do not have some sort of labor allowance, but, it certainly does not mention any. While I think it's probably a wise investment, i would like to know more SPECIFICS about what is covered and what is not. Perhaps I'm too analytical or perhaps it's because I was once burned after having shelled out a few thousand dollars for a warranty program that had more loop holes in it than a large slice of swiss cheese.
