• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I recently got my 08 spyder SM5 with 5800 miles out on a 60 degree day in february in New york (odd and uncommon). Well I took her to the gas station to put fresh gas in her and spun out about 20 miles. I stopped and shut her off (to get coffee), and when i restarted her the engine light came on and i have very little power now. It seems like its only running on one cylinder. The shop wont even touch it for a few weeks because there still are working on snowmobiles, but i wont go there on how I feel about that. Has anyone ever had or heard of this issue. Please help !!!

Someone will be on shortly to give you some help/information about the engine light/low power issue. While your waiting for that, if possible, I would recommend going on the hunt for a new place to work on the bike. Any place that is to busy to hlep you out--is not the kind of place that I would deal with if I could avoid it. What's going to happen to people who may be visiting in the area and have a mechanical issue that needs to be addressed now?

Theres not to may dealers in my area (NY) that can work on the Spyder. And both of them said NO, not now because of the snowmobile season. It is something I did not think to much about when I made my purchase. But, I love my spyder because it's unique, not like crotch rockets and harleys. So I hope this issue is not something of more to come.

Hard to accurately diagnose over the Internet, but the timing just after you got gas, points in that diection. Sounds like maybe you got some water in the gas, and fouled the O2 sensor. Some Stabil or Seafoam will help with the water...if it is not too bad, but you will probably need to see the dealer to have the O2 sensor replaced, if that is the culprit. You can check the active diagnostic codes, following the procedure in your manual, and maybe it will shed a bit more light on the situation. Of course the dealer's BUDS system would provide the best diagnosis. You can also check the plugs yourself (with some difficulty), and replace them if necessary. You can check the spark at the same time.

I'd try the dealer in Utica, NY. A member here from another state used them while on a trip and had good luck with them. It looks like about a 54 mile trip one way; less than what I travel to my dealer. Just a thought.

Here's the thread about good service at the Utica dealer:

Weak battery. Same exact thing happened to me last fall. If your battery is the original one that came with the bike, its about the timeframe for it to go. 2-3 years max. Unfortunatelly.

Get the gel battery like Lamonster suggest. I did. 6 year pro rated warrenty and duty life up to 8 years.:2thumbs:

But she starts right up with no issuses. But the light comes right back on and still a huge reduction in power. The back cylinder exhaust pipe isn't even getting hot. ?????????? I have no clue what's going on.

Oh boy, that ain't good. Start with checking the ignition wire, smell for unburned fuel in the exhaust, pull the plug to see if it is wet and not firing. But if you have BEST, bring it to the dealer and let them deal with it. If you only are covered under the original 2-year warrenty and is still within the coverage period, get it to the dealer NOW (before it expires) and have service ticket written up with current date. This is to cover your butt in case BRP tries to get off the hook. Get the 3 year extended if you still can. Highly recommended.

That was me... Amsterdam is a ways from Utica though.. about 1.5 hours, but if he has not many other options, DDS is probably his best bet for miles.
