• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

VSS Fault AGAIN

Posted a note regarding VSS Fault on 1/29/11. Took to the dealer on same day and picked up the following Saturday. The problem at that time was diagnosed as a pin coming loose from the sensor. On a ride today I got another VSS Fault message with Check DPS and Limp Home Mode. Needless to say I am not a happy camper at this time.
Today before we left the house My son added the Heli risers. Also, I checked the oil level and it was just above the add line. Could either one of these be a contributing factor.
If this problem reoccurs a third time I'll be an ex-spyder owner.

Reese

A good mechanic will always ask, Go back the last thing you worked on before it broke down?

VSS Fault is still active. I was 20 miles from the house and could not go above 3500 rpms or shift into 5th gear. Took awhile to get back home.

Well, what little I know about pins, if one came loose and it was just shoved back in, it was not fixed. Whatever the base that the pin is in should have been replaced as a whole unit.
I hope you don't give up on your Spyder that quickly. Once you get the hiccups cured you'll be a happy camper.

After dealing with the idiosyncrasies of a motorhome for 5 years my tolerance for mechanical issues with vehicles is very low. Hopefully this can be repaired to my satisisfaction. If not it is gone.

Reese

Check for blown fuses and reseat the relays in the fuse box closest to the trunk. If there are no blown fuses and resetting the relay resolved the issue you may want to consider a new set of relays

Having to reseat loose relays doesn't mean they're bad. I have had to reseat a relay or 2 after not checking for months and no problem since. Some have had to add foam or another layer of foam. But, I guess there is always that chance that there is a loose connection in the relay itself.

Carlo with BRP called this afternoon and discussed the vss fault issue. He is going to have the technical depatment contact the local dealer and make some suggestions on a remedy for this problem. I appreciate Carlo calling and discussing this issue. It has help restore some of my faith in Can Am. Carlo is a prince and a gentleman.

Also make sure you aren't riding with your foot on the brake pedal. That WILL cause error messages as others have experienced.

Dealer called this afternoon and stated that the repairs on our Spyder had been completed. Service manager stated that the tech had to readjust the lean and yaw sensor on the DPS. I will take it for a ride this weekend and see what happens.

i dont really see why can-am atleast could give us some super light BUDS so we can reset and recalibrate some stuff... can-am themself would get more cash then having their dealers do it:P
it was probebly some simple self-calibration thing also:p

I've been very pleased... so far. I ride a mountain curved road, to and from work everyday; and I have three SHARP curves and one Hairpin. the VSS kicks in, about twice a day; depending how hard I hit these spots. and I wait for it to kick in; just to see if it will.

and yes... I am fully prepared for it to miss... and be forced to manually compensate for it, with adjusted throttle and riding position. so this is NOT something I take for granted... as being a sure thing. :yikes:

that's another reason for a Gremlin Bell... :D

Carlo with BRP called today to follow up with the service on the vss fault. I told him that they reset the steering angle sensor. Carlo said that was the best repair for the vss fault.
