Audio Tie In Question

Well I have my ChattterBox mounted on the glove box and needed to be able to listen to the onboard radio/Ipod through the helmet headsets.
Not having the other audio add-ons, I went to the radio wireing harness and probed into all of the wires to find the front speaker wires. I tapped into the proper wires and ran them forward to a plug that inserts into the audio port of the ChatterBox. This setup works well, but it seems that the input from the speakers is a little much--as I have to keep the handlebar volume down to a bare minimum.
I am researching inline resistors to possibly cut down on the ChatterBox input feed to allow for more speaker volume.
Any audio wizzards out there with suggestions?
Thanks C-YA RL

Warning... VERY crusty memory here....

I believe all you need to do is put a two way line converter in (Goggle), this should do the trick and allow you the volume control you are looking for .

By two way I mean, I think that is what it take to go from the "Amped" speaker power to low line level and not blow up the converter. If you go buy the "Radio Shack" special, I think they work, but only for a short period because we over power the circuit.

Remember.. Technology improves all the time and this is 20+ years ago memory working :yikes::roflblack:

Thanks for the info. I think that is just what I am looking for. I'll get on it right away and let you know the results.
Thanks again C-YA RL

If at all possible, can you please post detailed directions when you get this worked out ? Maybe some photos as well ?

I have a Starcom and this is exactly what I want to do, but I'm afraid to blow the Starcom with the relatively high powered BRP stereo leads.

Yes I will post the results as soon as I get it configured.

line output converter

I received my part (Scosche LOC80 Speaker to RCA for 2 Speakers) yestarday and spent most of the evening installing it. I had to make the connectors and find a location to install & fasten the 2-channel line output converter.
It just fits under the glove box and is fastened with velcro so it can be removed to make any adjustments. There are adjustments to increase or decrease output to each channel for a perfect balance and volume control.
I would say that this is a great fix to an otherwise very expensive alternative---for me that is(no CB here).
I purchased this unit from crutchfield after reviewing a few other sites, and I am very happy with the price, the speed of shipping and the unit itself. Only potential problem I see is watertightness. I will monitor this for any potential problems.
Thanks C-YA RL

Can you identify the speaker wires please?? The radio is prestty easy to get to if you remove the seat.
Then you can also install a cut-off switch to allow for either speaker or headphone mode.

You shouldn't have to remove the seat, but I had to take the right side skins off.
I think the wires I saw in the wiring diagram showed Pink, pink/black Green, Brown/green were the speaker wires. I probed them to make sure. I didn't think about a switch, but I tapped into the front speakers and by adjusting the fader front to back that is one way to adjust the volume. I may change it to the rear speakers so I can cut the sound for my RIO and I can still listen to the tunes.

YES I am glad that you guided me with your input.
Thanks C-YA RL
I am just glad I remembered enough to be of any help... :2thumbs: ;)

BTW... I am pretty sure I set up a potentiometer at some point so I could reduce volume faster (On a boat) than searching for the fader.. Or left/right on a two speaker setup... I just can't remember what units and parts I ordered to do that...

Additionally... I thought that I could set the fader to a certain level.. and then the master volume worked for the up and down just fine for everything :dontknow:... Not having a setup in front of me to tweak has me mumbling to myself in an attempt to remember what I did :roflblack:

audio jacks...

I'm a new RT owner and have found the radio in it's factory configuration to be pretty much useless... except when stopped.
This may sound like a dumb question, but why didn't BRP install a front and rear stero audio jack on the Audio/Convenience RT's? It would seem something this simple should have been included as standard equipment.

Avanti

Sinkhole,
A little off topic but I drove a white 1980 Avanti II for over ten years. Should have kept it. It still looks good.
Jester :joke:

Avanti

Mine was a 1964 transitional with round headlamp bezels. I drove mine from late 63 through 1969. I too wish I had mine today. I looked at one on e-bay right before I bought the RT, so I had a tough decision to make. The RT won ;).

Thanks Inspector Gadget for the Info

The link I posted ref Autocom is their Stereo ** Interface ** lead
(**The little black box shown on the **)

See http://www.autocom.co.uk/ProductDeta...?ProductID=100

This allows a normal car type stereo to be iput into the Autocom system by way of a 3.5mm Jack plug - it was designed to protect the incar Radio unit

I used this on my BMW Motorcycle with a normal Sony Incar Radio/Cassette unit and never had any problems

I am hoping this will be ok for the spyder I did ask Autocom UK and they replied -
Part 2275 will connect to the back of the speakers
and into your Avi.
Although I have now gone over to a Bluetooth headset with a 3.5MM
input instead of the Autocom AVi for the Radio from the Spyder

Thanks
