• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

new more efficient fan from brp

brp has new fan with shroud around it to make it more efficient for folks in hot climate. they are replacing them on case by case basis like the squeaky brake pads so talk to your dealer if you DO live in hot climate.

Same fan as the RT :doorag:

Is it fundamentally the same fan (as the current 08/09/10 RS models) with a different shroud?

yes it's essentially same fan but shroud makes it more efficient and looks like same fan as RT has.

you can get the fan replaced if you are having over heating issue like mine and your dealer agrees that you ARE in fact having over heating issue.
if your dealer feels that new fan will help your spyder run cooler, they get in contact with brp and get an approval.

Do you have to currently have overheating issues, or can you get it done just based on the temps where you live? Also, what do they consider high temps? :dontknow:

my spyder over heated yesterday and went in limp home mode but i think it's caused by thermostat but my dealer thinks new fan will help also.
they know that spyder is my everyday vehicle and i ryde in traffic often so they offered. i did have intermittent over-heating issue but it never came to limp home before.
i believe brp will take your dealer's word on whether you need the new fan or not so it's all up to the dealer and a lot of gray area there on who needs it and who don't:dontknow:

it's just like getting new pads for squeaky brake, case by case basis.

Thanks, I haven't had any real overheating issues so far so I guess I will keep running with the stock fan until I do have a problem.

For those out of the warranty period, any idea what the out-of-pocket cost would be if they replaced it themselves?

Another possibility would be to install a manual switch to turn on the fan whenever you find yourself in traffic and/or running hot. I believe Big Arm did this. Perhaps he, one of our more talented members could generate a "how-to"???????:dontknow:

after the thermostat replacement and new fan, i will be fully armed for hot weather.:D
i will have the new fan, manual switch, and air dams along with some water wetter.
by the way, manual switch works really good.

That looks a lot better than the development model.

that new fan will set you back 219.95:yikes:
new fan with shroud will serve different purpose than air dam.
air dam will benefits you while you are moving and new fan, when you are sitting but i do believe that manual switch should save most spyder in hot weather but i don't know how hard it would be on the fan.

A "how to" on the fan switch would be a great help if anyone knows how to wire it. As long as I'm asking, why not include pictures!

if you pop open a right lower(colored) panel, you will see the wire connector right below the radiator/fan. you need to t-tap the positive wire to any power source with a inline switch. i picked up a toggle switch from pepboys for 5 bucks.
i think someone already did a "how to". i can not remember who it was but i was able to do it with his instruction.

How can we tell if ours came with the new fan or the old? Our 2008 never overheats, but the 2010 automatic we tried, hit five bars in minutes.
