There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. new more efficient fan from brp

How can we tell if ours came with the new fan or the old? Our 2008 never overheats, but the 2010 automatic we tried, hit five bars in minutes.

The difference is obvious if you take the tupperware off and look at it. The original fan does not have the shroud that covers the entire back-side of the radiator. Most riders have not experienced major overheating issues, it seems to be mostly those that live in hotter environments or those that do a lot of low speed driving in traffic or around town. There have been a few exceptions, but most are in the previously mentioned groups or a combination of both.

you can tell by looking thru the right front lower panel. new fan will have square shroud around the fan or original ones will be just round.
i agree with bean that most are ok with original ones.
i live in big city with a lot of traffic and spyder is my everyday vehicle and the new fan was exactly for ryders like me.
it's 105 or above everyday here and i rarely, i mean 1 or 2 times a day, see 6 bars anymore with a bottle of water wetter and the new fan.

We went to a fireworks display at Fort Gordon last night. Sitting in stop and go traffic, mostly stopped, for half an hour and the Spyder hit 7 bars. Had to pull over and put on something reflective before they would let us on post. Shut down Spyder and got my mesh jacket out of the frunk, and answered a bunch of questions the MPs had about the Spyders. Started them back up and the High Temp warning was displayed on the screen. Fortunately mine dropped immediately once we started rolling again. My wife's went into limp mode for it, but the speed limit was only 35 so it didn't really matter at that point.

This is the first time my Spyder has ever gotten that hot. I was smarter when leaving the event and shut it down while we were stopped in traffic. :D

Thanks; I have the round shroud that does NOT cover the radiator. Riding in 95 degree central Florida weather today, the dash stayed at four bars as long as I was doing better than 50. If I dropped down to 45, it jumped to five bars. At traffic lights, it hit six bars. To get Bombadier to upgrade my fan, I'd have to throw a code, right? I found a SPAL ten-blade fan on eBay that is supposed to be the late fan for $65.00, but still has the rouns shroud. Is that the one to get?
On the flip side, my right foot wasn't really feeling any heat, but my left foot was roasting! Seems to me that an oil cooler fan might be more important than a radiator cooling fan upgrade. Anyone done that?

i don't think you necessarily had to have limp home mode to get the fan.
i think it's pretty much up to your dealer to make the call but i think yours is running at normal temp.:dontknow:

I am a Floriday daily rider, so will give my opinion of the new fan in a week or two. I treat my service department guys very well and in return I believe they took good care of me on this one. I took my 08 in due to overheating issues and the service manager made a call to BRP on it. BRP's first suggestion was to have me use a water wetter type of solution, but I have already tried that...did not work for me, so BRP did comp it out at no cost. Parts just came in today.

By the way, not sure much will really work when it's so hot and humid out. I have my pipes wrapped, used the water wetter, the spyderpops thing, etc, and its all a feel good that I did someting, but nothing has actually truly worked. Maybe this new fan will do the trick.

i have no doubt that you will see as good a result as i have.
i do have a bottle of water wetter in and it's very nice to see spyder bring the temp down to 4 bars while sitting in 100 degree weather sometimes.
since i got the new fan, i did not have to use my manual fan switch since spyder runs on 4 and 5 bars even in traffic. it would go up to 6 bars once in a blue moon but fan brings it right back down to 5 even when sitting.

This assumes that you have a dealer in your area that does anything above or beyond the minimum. :lecturef_smilie:

i do believe every spyder in desert and southern hot/humid area should be able to get the fan IF dealer says it will help. i don't mean for you to abuse it but if you honestly feel you can use it, talk to your dealer. if they are not willing to do something simple like this for you(scary thought, what if you have really big problem...), may be it's time to look for another dealer, if that's an option.
running on 4 and 5 bars is normal with 6 bars at the light. if you live in a big city, you will benefit more from the fan and have a better argument even if you are not running at 7,8 bars.

Overheated in VA on I95 HOV at merge

Hey Folks,

Thanks for this post! Since the spring I have noticed my bike to be running a bar hotter then normal. I recently had an issue coming home from work where I commute 60 miles both ways here in Northern VA. It has been hot as heck here this summer and during a drive home one night my little red SE5 overheated at the HOV merge as I sat there for 20-30 mins in almost 100 degree heat! Bike went into limp mode but I made it home. Emailed my dealer of the issue and they said to bring it in. They hooked it up to BUDS and seen the overheating issue register. So seeing this post I told them that BRP has a new fan for those who have had overheating issues. My dealer (FMS - who rocks by the way!) contacted BRP and they stated that they would send the new fans and asked the dealer to also inspect the radiators as BRP were going to send new ones. So parts are due in this week and I hope to see a difference.
