• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Who wants a thread listing Dealers who'll work on older Spyders?

Mods please Would it be acceptable for a dealer list of those accepting 10year old plus machines or not? Not knowing how much has changed without vendor page & all. Thanks

I haven't raised it with the rest of the Mod/Admin Team yet, but I reckon that if there's support for such a thread, and we can sort out some rules & procedures that'd let it work without it becoming a bun fight &/or a b****fest, then such a thread would probably work & be quite an asset - give us a bit of time to consider/discuss & we'll see.

We have tried similar threads tho, not really with a great deal of success - the 'What Tires are on YOUR Spyder' thread is one that immediately comes to mind:
https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums...Tires-are-on-YOUR-Spyder-Details-Please-*****

Few bother to look for something like that before starting a new thread asking about what others fit/use/prefer anyway; and if they do ever look at it, many just can't resist adding comments on other's choices, despite that being something we asked people NOT to do and REALLY tried to avoid!!

Still, while the Mod/Admin Team is considering how best we could do it & manage it, maybe members could post their support for such a thread or other comments here in this thread?? Without nominating any dealers or/or commenting/arguing about which dealers might qualify at this stage, tho - just an indication of support or otherwise, & maybe some helpful input on how you'd see it running?? :dontknow:

Thanks & hopefully such a thread could remain somewhere civil. Understand difficulties especially having older bike just wanting lil Certified servicing & or access to BUDS. Maybe restrictions like joke thread:dontknow: BRP should very well include such information on the rating list (like better tires) unfortunately way businesses are now & updating/grading only options. Just hoping for a reference source if possible while out on trips & all. They culled enough dealers making it difficult before any of the 10year age things were mentioned. (That I’m aware of) also understanding that each dealership making own choices per quotas, inventory & other matters. Troubling if BRP charging unreasonable $ for BUS program & other requirements. Local incident when attempting a spare key, poor kid could not find code on BUDS & knew nothing about red Master key required for 13& prior. AND had already cut a $50 blank. After that mentioned the year & get a sharp Nope won’t look at. Maybe tires bout it.

I will have a need... My 2016 Spyder RTL is 8 years old. It only seems like a few years ago that I purchased the Spyder.
My local Spyder Dealer has said that they are not going to do much on a ten-year-old Spyder.
Getting parts is the biggest problem. New Techs and the cost of Training.

Life keeps on going on...

IMO, the 10 year refusal to service is because of the end of the 998 V-Twin engine Spyders. There may be some Tupperware replacement problems with the 2013/14 MY Spyders but have no idea of extent.

It could be a good thread, but I do understand the potential issues.

I agree it's a great idea. But keeping it current might be a problem. Things change often in this industry. It's mostly non-dealerships that work on older machines these days.

Baja Ron comes up with a very interesting point.

Keeping the thread current will be the largest problem. Dealers come and go. Information changes on a daily basis. Look at the threads that list Spyder Riding Clubs. Most of these go unread and never updated. We see almost on a weekly basis people answering these threads, which have not had a post in several years.

My opinion is that current word by posting. Not giving advertising to dealers, but keeping up with those who REFUSE to work on Spyders. Shout outs can be given to those who have had a GOOD experience. Current dealers can be found through BRP search and postings as they appear on the site concerning various topics.

Most of you know, but moderators on the site are paid NOTHING for all the time spent working on the site. I have been on site three to four times a day since I came on board as a moderator in September of 2018. I don't know the total hours, but I know it is up there. Peter spends even more time on the site than I do.

Ahhh! A site moderator is like most policing jobs. Under appreciated and gets little attention until feathers are ruffled. Personally, I'm not sure why anyone would volunteer for the abuse! But without good moderators (which is what we have on this site), things go to (....) in a handbasket in a hurry.

If we go with this list (which I am in favor of). Someone needs to step up to the plate and reliably keep it current. I'd say the current moderators don't want that job because they know what it would require. I would say it might take someone in each state to accomplish this. If we don't have this kind of support, then it isn't a good idea.

Any volunteers

And...this is a job that needs to be kept up on with updates, so that the list does not get out of date. One or two errors, and your list is not worth the time it takes to get it going. Imagine someone relying on the list, showing up at dealer X to get repairs on a cross country trip, and finding out "We don't work on old bikes anymore." Somebody is going to hear about that.

What if the list were reversed? These dealers do not work on Spyders over 10 years old:

That list is already on board. We hear about it a lot. Lately, more people are posting to that effect. There could be legal ramifications if we had such a posted list.

I would like to see a list like that seeing as I ride a 2013 RT.

No dealer closer than 60 miles for me. Then 111 miles, 136 miles... and so on.
So I guess I just call a dealer in the area and ask how far back they will still service?

Hope to never need one, but just asking.

Personally, I would never do that! That's just asking to be told to go elsewhere!! :banghead:

However, since I do have a 2013 RT, I would make sure that any dealer I spoke to about doing anything knew that I had a 2013 model! :lecturef_smilie:

But I certainly wouldn't be asking them how far back they'd service; instead, I'd be telling them that my Spyder was a 2013 Spyder before I'd agreed to letting them even look at it, if you get my drift! ;) If they know that it's a 2013 and they still allow (or suggest, recommend, et al  ) it to be taken in &/or agree to even look at it, there's at the very least a verbal contract existing (just make sure that you DO document EVERYTHING, even down to immediately noting details, including names, dates, & times of any discussions/phone calls that you make/receive. ;) ) to the effect that they will look/work on it!

Just Sayin'
