• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Dude; I usually agree with your posts, but not with this one. The dangerous steering issue is NOT only between owners and BRP.....it also concerns prospective owners, and rightly so. I can see previous owners like yourself sitting quietly in the back row because they know they sold their Spyder, possibly to some unsuspecting party, and don't want to dwell on the known issues it had for obvious reasons.
:agree:

Well I do understand that new things have bugs but we can fix little bugs but to me this steering thing is a big bug. What BUGS me is that none of us know if this new DPS is the fix or not - nobody has given any of us an answer. So yeah, I'm p*ssed about that but my bike worked after it got a new DPS but for how long.

I do have all winter long to think about it but I gotta tell ya - those Urals are cool. Question is, can I ride a hack. Did two wheels, have no interest in going back to that. Or I can just play passenger again on HDX's bike. That is nice too.
hdx would prob like that:D

Driving a hack is work almost the opposite of the Spyder.
Also like i said once before, the Urals have a hill problem.
''They can't get up them'' :( Almost got one a few years ago then
along came the Spyder.

Oops

As stated in another thread. I did not totally disable my DPS as I only pulled the front fuse and not the rear fuse. :opps: I might not have had any more resistance to moving right if I had pulled the rear fuse too, but I can not say, as I did not do it. :opps: I left my Spyder at the dealer last night and have heard nothing yet.

I,d like to know if anyone pulled the front and rear DPS fuse on an 09 SE5 and if the machine worked with them pulled? OR did the Computer say NO CAN START?:shemademe_smilie:

My understanding is that after the steering recall update has been performed, this will cause the Spyder to revert to limp home mode. I think Nick Caro has experience with this, perhaps he can confirm.

I ride with him still even though I have my :spyder:. Sometimes he'll ryde the :spyder:with me on the back or sometimes I'll ride with im on the Harley. I keep asking him to ryde on the back of the :spyder:while I drive but he won't do it!:lecturef_smilie:

Thats No fun ? I get on my Spyder so I don,t have to LIMP?\

You know I just read each case in the NHTSA.
16 Steering 08 Model.
3 Steering 09 Model.
20 Reported Problems Divided by 10,000 Spyders = 1 in 500 having a problem.
Lets say 100 problems. 5 Times the Number reported= 1 in 100 having a problem?

I want an answer and fix as much as anyone BUT if that doesn,t happen by Spring I will be out on my :spyder2:!!:D

Ok, all members and lurkers know about the steering problems the Spyders has, even now, it seems (and newbies are reading about it as they sign up to the forum ).

My question is simple:

"How serious is the steering problem that initiated the BRP Recall on nearly 10,000 Spyders back in July of 2009? (http://spyder.brp.com/en-CA/Owner-Ce...17.07.2009.htm).

QUESTIONS ONLY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED STEERING ISSUES, THEMSELVES, FIRSTHAND:

1. SMALL concern. I don't feel it will take me off the road or kill me.

2. MAJOR concern. Will NOT ride until totally fixed (tow to dealer for fix)

DOES ANYONE have any video to share of their testing or on-board camera video of this problem occurring; perhaps to help show the severity of the issue of the steering problem?

Thank you and ride safe.
cheers.

Where did you get your "BRP recalled nearly 10,000 Spyders" information from??? To be honest, you are really getting to be nuisance with all your questions. If you are trying to become a genius on the Spyder, get one first, then ask questions about issues you get with it. Yes, I am blunt, but I have many years on motorcycles and 31,000 plus miles on our SE5 Spyder. If I have a question, I have earned it, you haven't.

Now come on Dudley - was that very nice?!:lecturef_smilie: Mr. Ground is very inquisitive and yes he's done quite alot of polls but I'm thinking he is that way cuz he has some hard earned cash and may quite possibly want to buy a :spyder: with it. If I were him, I'd be asking the same questions. No way would I plunk down a hunk of cash if I see stuff going wrong with it - I would be doing just what Mr. Ground is doing - asking a ton of questions. Heck, if any place is the place to do it- Spyderlovers IS THE PLACE. #1 place for spyders - better than BRP's site, better than asking your dealer, just the best place to find sh*t out. I see people getting annoyed with him but quite frankly, he's not doing anything wrong. And I believe with certain posters on here telling him how dare he ask a question if he don't own it, well isn't that kinda "Harley snob" that some have been complaining about in here about certain Harley Riders? (Minus HDX of course).

Hi there.

I checked out the NHTSA site, but could only find records of official recalls, issued by the manufactures, not compliants or problems submitted by users/riders. Can you please direct me to where you found this information, above, I REALLY WANT to read through those. 1 out of 100 is pretty good, all said and done.

Thank you in advance, hope you can direct me to this info:
16 Steering 08 Model.
3 Steering 09 Model.

Thank you.
