• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Steering gremlins have returned

I STILL think it's a software misfire or miscommunication thing going on somewhere in the :spyder:. Some people had their DPS replaced only once, some more than once, some not at all. I really think this is software related - whether it's something screwy in the BUDS system or the updates. I know there are many with no issues which is great but I wish we could figure out WHY this is happening to some and not others. That's the part I don't get.

My prediction for 2010....Someone is going to be severely injured or killed due to the "steering problems" and BRP is going to have to cough up very big $$$ when they are sued. There is enough evidence on this forum alone relating to steering issues that seemingly can not be fixed to warrant a gulity verdict. I pray that I am wrong on my injury prediction, but the luck many riders have had in avoiding an accident is sure to run out evidentually. BRPeees stance on this issue has to be changed. If the steering on involved vehicles is not repairable to the extent of guaranteeing operator safety, the owners should be given the opportunity to get a full refund of the purchase price. In the end this will probably be more cost efficient for BRP than having to pay court settlements....and it might save some lives !!

There was someone seriously injured around 2/09 due to a steering issue. He's a member here.

:agree:Started when all these computer adds were put in, started screwing everything up.

Yup. Wonder if it's like the same thing as a laptop - you know when you turn it on you get the little thing that says "Windows Updates Available" but you don't do it cuz it makes you nervous and you don't trust it.:dontknow:

I'm working on the video for the next few days. It really showed the Spyder turning right then me fighting it to go straight. And not just a single incident, but multiple times within an hour. POV camera worked really good for this.

Hey Dave... the story I got, Doc/Seth, was that you were wandering all over the road like a drunk sailor.:roflblack::roflblack:. Any truth to that??????:joke::joke:

Not funny, Doc/Seth , saw that you were having trouble in driving a straight line down the hyway and got very frightened that you might have an accident... That would scare me as I had a bit of the same problem as you, but my dealer has replaced my DPS and it seems to be ok.. However, the trust factor is very slowly returning.

Keep us posted and have a good year and be safe.

LOL. I would say that crossing 2 lanes of traffic would make me appear drunk.I have been 217 mph on my Busa and this Spyder scared me more than I have ever been scared. Losing control is one thing, but fighting to get control, well, there is no good answer for that. My feelings right now is that my Spyder owning days are coming to an end and its time for something safe.We will see if BRP can restore my confidence in their products.

Sorry to hear of your ordeal, thank God you didn't get hurt. Very interested in seeing this video..I'd call that evidence. If it came down to that point.

PLEASE post that video of this, if you can pull it together and upload. Very interested to see it and glad you did not get hurt!

Cheers.

Yes, please post the video if you can.

I will hold on to the video for a short time, at the request of my legal council. I was involved many years back with the first few Ford pickup trucks going from park to reverse by themselves and spent some time in the hospital due to a machinery fault. That is why I feel so strongly on this issue. I will be back in contact with BRP on the 4th when they return from vacation to get this resolved in a quick manner.

Don't blame ya for holding back w/ the video. Let us know how it all works out. Not that I veered into oncoming traffic when mine "locked up" but it sure scared the sh*t out of me..... I was looking straight onto a guardrail and trees. I began to doubt myself when it happened the first time but the second time I knew it wasn't me.

Yeah, can't blame ya for not releasing it just yet. Keep us updated on whatever you find out.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems dave01.

It's scarry and very discouraging as well.

I went out yesterday ( not many miles after my DPS replacement) and that feeling came back for a second...'was that me? Did it do it again? '

I don't really know if I was experiencing a problem; or if I just had thought it was being stubborn, but I definately agree with effgjamis : ' it makes your trust factor very slow in returning'.

I won't give up on my spyder. I just hope they find the root cause and can fix it soon!

WOW, I hope it was just a crest in the road or something. My confidence will be real slow in coming back. I'm not a real aggressive rider unless I am in the mountains and would hate to have had this issue when up there. I'm just looking for a real fix, not a bandage fix for the problems.

So, let me get this straight:

BRP are replacing units... and not FIXING the steering issues?

The steering issues are STILL in the Spyders?

..... EVEN AFTER THE DPS updates (two of them was it?), ... STILL there?

Anyone confirm this?

thank you.

that is what my issue is with this mess. People that got their DPS replaced are not any safer than the ones that haven't yet as, in my opinion, that new DPS could go bad just like the one in mine. They are not fixing the DPS just replacing it. I hope something is found out my the time spring comes cause it makes me nervous. I tell you one death from this and I think a lawsuit would put them in a big whole finacially, I would think. There only defense, I guess, would be that you new about the possible issues from this site and yet you choose to ride it:dontknow:

There is no way they can use what you said as a defense. They would have to issue a recall that would actually correct the problem. Then, if you chose not to have the recall, they would not be liable.

Like you, I hope they actually correct the problem by spring; my Spyder is asleep right now.

Dave, has any progress been made on your issue yet?
My local mechanic looked at mine more today and still gets "change DPS" from the Buds. He talked with BRP techs and they are sending another DPS unit to try. Talked to Carlos today and basically told him I will give them 2 more tries, which counting the original DPS will be 4 units to get it right and then i will proceed with my only recourse. With 2 witnesses and video to back up my failing DPS issues and wandering Spyder, I will have no problem getting the result I am seeking. I still do not have a good feeling about the whole DPS change-out but i will give them a fair chance at correcting the problem. One thing I did hear today was if I have a problem after the next DPS, BRP will be sending a tech down to Fl to look at my Spyder. I have my fingers crossed
