• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Do you think dealerships should offer some compensation/discounts ??

I was talking to my dealer last week. They are in quite a cash flow bind. They can't get inventory, can't collect on the sales of products that have shipped but are awaiting parts, but they have to buy all the accessories that go with the products but can't really sell them because the products are incomplete.

As a former Dealer, this post is 100% on the money. It is simply amazing how utterly clueless some out there are..........

Absolutely spot on. I've been trying to say this for some time now but couldn't have said it better!

Edit: Maybe 'clueless' was a little harsh. Maybe 'uninformed' would have been a better choice of words. It is obvious each of us has different opinions and that is just fine.

Delays aren’t the dealer’s fault. CAN AM should be compensating purchasers waiting for product they are unable to ship. Pre-ordering should have ceased when the supply-chain issues arose, and deposits refunded until product could be reliably available.

Your entitled to your opinion, but if your not able to express it without insulting other forum members by saying they are clueless, then you probably shouldn’t post.

.

All this delay situation in not the dealer's fault. Has this delay situation/ ( I would like to swear here ) has caused cash flow deficit for many dealers, yes it has , ya can't sell what you don't have ( well ...... some have purchased with long, long wait times). I voted NO.

Right ?? Some people are just know-it-alls, and I suppose I'm just one of the "clueless" ones, LOL.

I've read somewhere that a HUGE percentage of the revenue in car dealerships are NOT in the sale of new vehicles, but in the sale of parts (they are RIDICULOUSLY marked up) and exorbitant charges in SERVICE.

I suppose Can-Am dealerships operate the same way, right ??

So how about 10% off the first oil change, or something that won't make such a huge dent in the dealership's profits ?? My Toyota dealership offers such discounts, and *I believe* it would be a sign of good faith.

(BTW, this thread has sparked an interesting discussion with very valid points).

As of this posting, 1 out of 4 has agreed with me with a "YES" vote, so I guess I'm not the only one.

Perhaps I'm just a cheap-ass rider.

The funny thing is, I'm not one of those who is severely affected by the long delay and inconvenience, since I already have an '18 RTL (thank goodness).

A hot button subject. Disagreements are never a problem. With a group this big, many, many, opinions. No need to start name calling. Post your opinion, state your facts, or lack of them, and move on.

When it gets personal, we have to step in.

A dealer OWES the customer nothing.
Same as the customer OWES nothing to the dealer.

It is a relationship that EITHER can choose to walk away from at any time.

If your dealer/ your deal is unsatisfactory - then cancel whatever arrangement you have made and move on.

If you are satisfied that your arrangement will, in the end, be satisfactory - then maintain it.

I chose to end my arrangement with my dealer for a 2022 and exercise my right to do something else with my money.

If you are happy - stay.
If you are unhappy - walk away.

But just like the dealer has no right to change your deal; ie demand more of you after a deal has been reached - you are not entitled to change the deal either.

No way…….then I guess ford should be giving the 60000 people that ordered the Branco their money back, Chevy should be giving the 15000 people that ordered the z06, and all the others with simple cars back. Look at the rental car problems right now. They sold them all and now there’s none to be found and many out of buisness. So let’s stop all the sales and when all the parts come in the market is flooded and we go spiraling down? Every industry Including the 100 of 1000’s of pounds of fertilizer that has yet to come in for all the farmers is hurting. Stopping pre order will put them out of business, they need some revenue or there will be no businesses. So every other grocery store should not preorder and get any product since tomato’s and onions aren’t going to be readily available and not put order in now for corn for mid July but wait. Every person will be complaining. Look at the canning industry. There was no canning supplies the last 2 years and now bottles, cans everything is out of control and all the spare stuff sitting around. Ain’t going to happen. Like I said in the second post, “we” spyder riders are just experiencing this first time, but many other modes have already gone through this. Sorry but when Covid hit March 17th schools crashed, restaurant’s closed, industry stopped. Now look at it. It’s not perfect by any means but cyber teaching has seriously improved, takeout and outside seating has improved and industry has adapted. Is it great? No, but we have learned in the last 2 years how to adapt and at least learn something from the experience. BRP has adapted too. Watch their video on production delays. They learned and adapted and are able to stay afloat. In nothing comes in nothing goes out and everything will be closed permanently. We were told upfront there will be delays. Those that chose to put down deposits either wait or drop. It’s their decision. Sorry for the rant.

ARtraveler I agree and if you feel this is to opinionated I give you permission to delete. Just have been through this and listened for 6 months on the sled and corvette forums.

Opinions are fine.

This whole situation is not the fault of the dealer or even BRP. I’m not really sure if there is someone to point the finger at without getting into a political debate. Fact is who expected the entire planet to shut down for 2 years. Factories were shut down, and people were forced to stay home. Supplies and inventory were being consumed but not being replaced. Remember the big toilet paper shortage of 2021? What replacements there were, were stacked in shipping containers on docks all over the world. Then a ship gets stuck in a major short cut and shipping gets backed up all over the globe.

Things are just starting to resemble somewhat what the world looked like back in the before days. I’m not trying to brag or anything, but I made it through a volcanic eruption and a global pandemic, I think I can make it through this. :)

Wait, are you saying you’ve got toilet paper……..

Nice post, and I agree with you that there is no fault to blame on anyone. This shortage, delay, or whatever we are calling it, is just a bump in the road that I am am hopeful customers, dealers and BRP will all get through.

I don't know how it works elsewhere. But here there is a clause in the sale that says if a new car is not delivered within 90 days, you can cancel at no cost to you.
Went through this in 2004, things might have changed.

My understanding is BRP has asked dealers to let preorders cancel and to refund the down payment if they don't want to wait. I'd be surprised to hear anyone isn't being allowed to cancel without forfeiting their deposit.

The dealer should not be on the hook for delivery and parts delays. However, the manufacturer should provide some type of discount or compensation for the delay. Ford has done this for its Bronco and Maverick trucks which have been delayed. From Motor Trend: Ford confirmed the news to MotorTrend, with a representative stating, "Ford Maverick Hybrid customers will receive a Ford FITS Accessory Kit after they take delivery of their new truck.

Ride Safe!

Here it was written right in the sales contract.
Like I said things might have changed since then. All I can say is I did get my deposit back.
