Reduction in annual plate costs for 3 wheelers in Quebec

The section of the Quebec government that sets plate costs for vehicles has decided that 3 wheeled motorcycles are much safer than 2 wheeled ones and has set up a new 3 wheeled category.

2021 cost for a Spyder plate $597CAD

2022 cost for a Spyder plate $188CAD

Here in Nova Scotia (Canada) it is $46.10 a year for a 2 or 3 wheel motorcycle.

Oldgoat... was that per year or for a multiple years?

Holy smokes, that's a pretty good reduction, or should I say savings for three wheeled riders. Good for you guys.

The plate price here includes a huge payment for no fault insurance. The payout for the medical part of the insurance has fallen a lot over the past years on 3 wheelers so they have adjusted the rate to reflect that. The actual plate cost is maybe $20 but the insurance part is automatically added on - you have no choice

The $597 or the new $188 rates are for 1 year

That's a great drop in fees! Here in Delaware it's only $15 a year, renewable for one or two years. However, on a brand new bike purchase we can get up to 7yr. tags. It's well worth the cost not to have to visit the DMV.

Just a quick thought on the Insurance part of the plate.
Is this one company or several companies? How do they pay you if you have an accident ??
Here in Indiana USA this is where the best Insurance is a better way to go. .....

It is all run by the Quebec government. They pay the medical bills for all motor accident injuries . If a US brain surgeon is injured badly while driving in Quebec he had batter make sure he has his own additional medical insurance as what the Quebec government will pay out leaves a lot to be desired.

Now none of that insurance covers any damage to your vehicle or the one you hit or someone's property you damage. You have the voluntary option of going to an insurance company and buying coverage for your vehicle. It tends to be lower as the medical part is covered by the government.

You hit a car with your Spyder, your optional insurance (if you have purchased some) will pay for your Spyder repairs. The damage to the vehicle you hit will be covered by that owner's optional insurance if he bothered to purchase it.

That is what happens with "no fault" insurance here.

I have probably explained some of the above badly or got it wrong, blame extreme old age and senility.

It does mean that the cost of the optional insurance you buy is not too expensive. $200 for my Spyder with $2,000,000 public liability..

WI still is a bargain for m/c registration. $23/two years or $53/two years with personalized/vanity plates. I kinda think that might have something to do with H-D headquartered here ...

Here in IL it is $41 for a motorcycle, 2 or 3 wheel doesn't matter. $151 for a car or non-commercial truck. And if you renew online, there's an extra fee of a couple of dollars for the credit card company.

I think here in Arkansas that the fee for license plate is around 18.00 a year for a 2 or 3 wheel motorcycle.

Here in Ontario plates and insurance are not run together.
Plates were $80 a year for bikes and $120 for cars.
They just changed to no charge and are giving a rebate for the last two years.
